TL;DR: In this paper, the metadata is represented using a scheme that is shared among various computational components that manipulate the metadata; the scheme may also be shared with a host media processing system, as well as with other systems that are used in a time-based media editing and production workflow.
Abstract: Computer-based methods and systems for editing a time-based media program involve receiving an instruction to associate metadata with a selected portion of the program, determining a type of the metadata, wherein the type of the metadata is one of a predetermined set of metadata types, identifying a software component available to the editing system that is configured to process metadata of the determined type, and associating the metadata with the selected portion of the program by executing the identified software component to process the metadata. Metadata is represented using a scheme that is shared among the various computational components that manipulate the metadata; the scheme may also be shared with a host media processing system, as well as with other systems that are used in a time-based media editing and production workflow.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a framework for highly distributed delivery and processing of multicast continuous metadata, as a part of the infrastructure necessary to provide a more complete multimedia environment for hypermedia systems.
Abstract: As enabling technologies become available there is an increasing use of temporal media streams, such as audio and video, within a hypertext context. In this paper we present the rationale and requirements for delivering continuous metadata alongside the media stream, and focus on linking as our case study. We consider the mechanism for delivery of the metadata across a distributed system, the format and content of the metadata flow itself, and the presentation of the media and augmenting metadata to the user. Two initial proof of concept applications have been developed to demonstrate these concepts, which we describe. Finally we propose a framework for highly distributed delivery and processing of multicast continuous metadata, as a part of the infrastructure necessary to provide a more complete multimedia environment for hypermedia systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, a DVR, server, or other agent correlates media metadata from diverse sources, like an EPG data provider and multiple video-on-demand (VOD) service providers, in order to identify identical programs to which the metadata sets pertain.
Abstract: A DVR, server, or other agent correlates media metadata from diverse sources, like an EPG data provider and multiple video-on-demand (VOD) service providers. Metadata sets from different sources are compared in order to attempt to identify identical programs to which the metadata sets pertain. From at least one metadata set, information about the program that the other metadata set lacks is selected. A “canonical” data structure instance for the program is created. The information that is lacking from at least one of the metadata sources is inserted into that instance. For each source from which a program is available, the DVR stores the identity of that source on the DVR's persistent storage device in association with the canonical data structure instance for that program. The DVR receives search criteria from a user and then searches the stored canonical data structure instance for programs that satisfy the criteria.

TL;DR: In this paper, an information storage medium for storing metadata supporting multiple languages and a method of processing the metadata are provided, where a plurality of versions of the information regarding the contents written in multiple languages are provided and the languages are identified by the names of the respective metadata files.
Abstract: An information storage medium for storing metadata supporting multiple languages and a method of processing the metadata are provided. The information storage medium is provided to store: contents; and at least one metadata file in which information regarding the contents is recorded in at least one language. The metadata file comprises a plurality of language files in which a plurality of versions of the information regarding the contents written in a plurality of languages are provided, and the languages are identified by the names of the respective language files. The names of the language files may include a language identifier according to an ISO639-2 standard. The information may also include download information regarding a plurality of downloadable metadata files that are downloadable from other storage media. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a user with a plurality of versions of metadata written in one or more languages and selectively download metadata written in a desired language from a remote server into a reproduction apparatus with limited memory resources with reference to a supported language list.

TL;DR: A new framework for metadata visualisation systems called VisMeB (visual metadata browser), based upon redesign ideas from the IN-SYDER system, which uses a ScatterPlot in combination with a so called SuperTable for visualisation.
Abstract: We present a new framework for metadata visualisation systems called VisMeB (visual metadata browser). It is based upon redesign ideas from the IN-SYDER system that were come under extensive evaluations. The aim of our approach is to improve the process of finding relevant information in an intuitive yet multifunctional way. We use a ScatterPlot in combination with a so called SuperTable for visualisation. The two techniques are tightly coupled and present unique possibilities of interaction through the use of visual filters.
