TL;DR: In this paper, the status information associated with metadata extracted from multimedia files and stored in a metadata database is exposed to a user through a graphical user interface, where the status may include the list of multimedia files included in read and write queues, the priorities of each multimedia file, and the number of remaining multimedia files.
Abstract: A method to expose status information is provided. The status information is associated with metadata extracted from multimedia files and stored in a metadata database. The metadata information that is extracted from the multimedia files is stored in a read queue to allow a background thread to process the metadata and populate the metadata database. Additionally, the metadata database may be updated to include user-define metadata, which is written back to the multimedia files. The user-defined metadata is included in a write queue and is written to the multimedia files associated with the user-defined metadata. The status of the read and write queues are exposed to a user through a graphical user interface. The status may include the list of multimedia files included in the read and write queues, the priorities of each multimedia file, and the number of remaining multimedia files.

TL;DR: A semantic digital library oreChem ChemxSeer is developed that models chemistry papers with semantic metadata and shows how paragraphs containing experiment information in chemistry papers can be extracted and tagged based on a chemistry ontology with 470 classes, and then represented in ORE along with other document-related metadata.
Abstract: Representing the semantics of unstructured scientific publications will certainly facilitate access and search and hopefully lead to new discoveries. However, current digital libraries are usually limited to classic flat structured metadata even for scientific publications that potentially contain rich semantic metadata. In addition, how to search the scientific literature of linked semantic metadata is an open problem. We have developed a semantic digital library oreChem ChemxSeer that models chemistry papers with semantic metadata. It stores and indexes extracted metadata from a chemistry paper repository Chemx Seer using "compound objects".We use the Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) (http://www.openarchives.org/ore/ standard to define a compound object that aggregates metadata fields related to a digital object. Aggregated metadata can be managed and retrieved easily as one unit resulting in improved ease-of-use and has the potential to improve the semantic interpretation of shared data. We show how metadata can be extracted from documents and aggregated using OAI-ORE. ORE objects are created on demand; thus, we are able to search for a set of linked metadata with one query. We were also able to model new types of metadata easily. For example, chemists are especially interested in finding information related to experiments in documents. We show how paragraphs containing experiment information in chemistry papers can be extracted and tagged based on a chemistry ontology with 470 classes, and then represented in ORE along with other document-related metadata. Our algorithm uses a classifier with features that are words that are typically only used to describe experiments, such as "apparatus", "prepare", etc. Using a dataset comprised of documents from the Royal Society of Chemistry digital library, we show that the our proposed methodperforms well in extracting experiment-related paragraphs from chemistry documents.

TL;DR: Adoption of an ETL (extracttransform-load) metadata model for the data warehouse that makes subject area refreshes metadata-driven, loads observation timestamps and other useful parameters, and minimizes consumption of database systems resources is proposed.
Abstract: Metadata is essential for understanding information stored in data warehouses. It helps increase levels of adoption and usage of data warehouse data by knowledge workers and decision makers. A metadata model is important to the implementation of a data warehouse, the lack of a metadata model can lead to quality concerns about the data warehouse. A highly successful data warehouse implementation depends on consistent metadata. This article proposes adoption of an ETL (extracttransform-load) metadata model for the data warehouse that makes subject area refreshes metadata-driven, loads observation timestamps and other useful parameters, and minimizes consumption of database systems resources. The ETL metadata model provides developers with a set of ETL development tools and delivers a user-friendly batch cycle refresh monitoring tool for the production support team.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for changing data context in a business analytics report is described, where the report contains data and current metadata categories describing the data and a metadata hierarchy associated with the current metadata category.
Abstract: A method for changing data context in a business analytics report is described herein. In one embodiment, such a method includes providing a business analytics report, wherein the report contains data and current metadata categories describing the data. The method enables selection of a current metadata category directly on the business analytics report. The method displays a metadata hierarchy associated with the current metadata category. This metadata hierarchy may include the current metadata category as well as related metadata categories arranged in a tree-like structure. The method further enables selection of a related metadata category from the metadata hierarchy to apply to the business analytics report. The method automatically updates the business analytics report with the metadata category and populates the report with the associated data. A corresponding computer program product and apparatus are also disclosed.

TL;DR: This paper presents a scalable framework to efficiently manage the diversity of dynamic metadata in todays data stream processing systems and addresses the issues in dynamic metadata management such as metadata dependencies and metadata update concepts.
Abstract: Adaptive query processing is of utmost importance for the scalability of data stream processing systems due to the long-running queries and fluctuating stream characteristics. An essential prerequisite for adaptive runtime components is the presence of suitable metadata capturing the runtime state. As most of the metadata in such a system gets outdated over time, appropriate update mechanisms are required. Dynamic metadata management deals with the dynamic provision and continuous maintenance of metadata. This paper does not only address the issues in dynamic metadata management such as metadata dependencies and metadata update concepts, but also presents a scalable framework to efficiently manage the diversity of dynamic metadata in todays data stream processing systems. The core of our field-tested metadata framework is a publish-subscribe architecture that enables the system to identify and compute only the currently inquired metadata. This tailored metadata provision is crucial to scalability as maintaining all available metadata at runtime causes significant computational overhead when the number of continuous queries increases.
