Development and build environment for packaged software delivery

Abstract: A development and build environment creates information used by the master node and nodes in a network of nodes to perform software loading and evaluation during boot and normal runtime. The invention creates metadata and dependency data for packages and modules. Module metadata are created and inserted into the package that includes information such as the module's: binary signature, name, directory path, characteristics, and API dependency information. Packages are formed based on features/characteristics or purpose. A package contains one or more modules. Metadata are created for each package and inserted into the package that includes information such as the package's: name, build date, and characteristics.

Specification for resource description methods, Part 1. A review of metadata: a survey of current resource description formats

Abstract: This study provides background information to the DESIRE project to enable the implications of using particular metadata formats to be assessed. Part I is a brief introductory review of issues including consideration of the environment of use and the characteristics of metadata formats. A broad typology of metadata is introduced to provide a framework for analysis. Part II consists of an outline of resource description formats in directory style. This includes generic formats, but also, to give an indication of the range of development, domain-specific formats. The focus is on metadata for 'information resources' broadly understood rather than on the variety of other approaches which exist within particular scientific, engineering and other areas.

Abstract: A computer system configured to intercept method calls placed on an object. By intercepting method calls, processing may be performed on a method call-by-method call basis. As part of the processing, metadata for an object is consulted to partition the methods for that object into subsets. The processing performed in response to any specific method call may be based on the subset to which the method belongs. The type of metadata may depend on the desired operation of the computer system. Metadata representing a white list or black list may be used in a computer system that implements a security zone that allows access to methods deemed to be safe or to deny access to methods deemed to be unsafe. In a performance monitoring system, metadata may identify methods to be logged or methods for which execution cost are to be measured. Values returned by a method call may also be processed when the method calls are intercepted. The returned value may be wrapped with a wrapper that holds data useful in implementing a security zone or for performing other processing.

Searching with metadata comprising degree of separation, chat room participation, and geography

Abstract: Searches can be performed by attaching social contact metadata to a query where the metadata may be related to a degree of separation, chat room participation and geographical information related to an owner's contacts. Searches can then be executed by generalized search engines based at least in part on the metadata. The metadata may include contact identifiers that are unique across one or more social networks, and may include contacts for individual people as well as groups or other affiliations.
