TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for using metadata associated with data to be retrieved from storage to identify further data to retrieve at least a portion of that further data from the storage in accordance with a prefetch policy.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a data processing system and method for using metadata associated with data to be retrieved from storage to identify further data to be retrieve at least a portion of that further data from the storage in accordance with a prefetch policy.

TL;DR: A metadata collector is a poll, survey, list, questionnaire, census, test, game, or other type of presentation adapted to solicit user interaction as mentioned in this paper, which is associated with metadata elements.
Abstract: Social media networking applications, web sites, and services creates implicit relationships between users based on their interest or participation in real-world and optionally virtual or online activities in addition to explicitly defined peer relationships. User profiles, activity entities, and expressions may be associated with metadata to assist in searching and navigation. Metadata is implicitly associated with user profiles, activity entities, expressions, or other data entities based on user behavior using metadata collector. A metadata collector is a poll, survey, list, questionnaire, census, test, game, or other type of presentation adapted to solicit user interaction. A metadata collector is associated with metadata elements. When users interact with a metadata collector, their user profiles and the data entities included in their interactions become associated with the metadata elements of the metadata collector. These metadata element associations may then be used for any purpose.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method for detecting changes in a business data integration (BDI) solution, classifying each of the changes based on change severity, analyzing what objects would be impacted by the changes, determining whether the objects impacted by those changes can be change handled without user intervention, and change handling without users intervention all the objects that are not severe.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products detect and manage changes in business data integration (BDI) solutions. BDI solutions include extracting, mapping, or loading source information from disparate sources as targets presented to business applications that consume targets. A method involves detecting changes in a BDI solution, classifying each of the changes based on change severity, analyzing what objects would be impacted by the changes, determining whether the objects impacted by the changes can be change handled without user intervention, and change handling without user intervention all the objects impacted by changes that are not severe. Still further, the method involves committing changes to a metadata repository and creating a deployable checkpoint of the metadata repository where the deployable checkpoint is consistent for all the changes handled in the BDI solution. The modularized metadata describes an end-to-end information flow and underlying dependencies between the source information, mappings, targets and business applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system to synchronize metadata for a plurality of applications is presented, where a rules engine is programmed to apply at least a first set of the content administration rules to a metadata record received from a first application of the plurality of applied to control updating corresponding metadata stored in a master database.
Abstract: A system to synchronize metadata for a plurality of applications. The system includes content administration rules programmed to define policies for updating metadata in the master database and policies for propagating updates in the metadata to the plurality of applications. The metadata describes at least one asset represented as data residing in at least one of the plurality of applications. A rules engine is programmed to apply at least a first set of the content administration rules to a metadata record received from a first application of the plurality of applications to control updating corresponding metadata stored in a master database. Changes in the corresponding metadata made to the master database can be propagated to at least one second application of the plurality of applications according to a second set of the content administration rules predefined for each of the at least one second application.

TL;DR: In this paper, an approach for filtering data into a geo-activity zone cell is presented, in which an area of interest specifying an individual, organization, or entity is selected.
Abstract: An approach for filtering data into a geo-activity zone cell is presented. An area of interest specifying an individual, organization, or entity is selected. Data is extracted from streaming data and from data at rest. Metadata of the extracted data is determined. The metadata includes time and date stamp(s) and contextual information specifying the area of interest. A first portion of the metadata includes geospatial tag(s) specifying the area of interest, and a second portion of the metadata is initially missing geospatial tag(s). The missing geospatial tag(s) are determined and added to the second portion of the metadata by extracting a location from profile data and/or inferring the location based on a region-based geo-topic model. The extracted data is filtered into a geo-activity zone cell based on the first and second portions of metadata being within metadata boundaries.
