Abstract: Provided are an information search method and an information provision method based on the user's intentions. The information search method comprises: providing an editing device matched to the searcher's intentions ascertained using the results of analysis of searched words; and searching contents having metadata relating to metadata input through the editing device. In this way, the searcher's intentions can be ascertained from the information input by the searcher, detailed metadata input can be derived based on the ascertained intentions, and a search can be carried out using the input metadata.

Abstract: Obtaining metadata for media content. Software according to the invention requests the metadata via a metadata query data structure (MDQ) such as a uniform resource locator and receives metadata in response via a metadata return data structure (MDR). The invention includes namespace identifiers such as WMContentID, WMCollectionID, and WMCollectionGroupID for instance-specific associations between media content and metadata. The invention also includes namespace identifiers such as WMPrimaryClassID and WMSecondaryClassID to classify the media content.

Abstract: Database outsourcing is becoming increasingly popular introducing a new paradigm, called database-as-a-service, where a client’s database is stored at an external service provider. Outsourcing databases to external providers promises higher availability and more effective disaster protection than in-house operations. This scenario presents new research challenges on which the usability of the system is based. In particular, one important aspect is the metadata that must be provided to support the proper working of the system.
In this paper, we illustrate the metadata that are needed, at the client and server, to store and retrieve mapping information for processing a query issued by a client application to the server storing the outsourced database. We also present an approach to develop an efficient access control technique and the corresponding metadata needed for its enforcement.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing electronic data are disclosed. Various data management operations can be performed based on a metabase formed from metadata. Such metadata can be identified from an index of data interactions generated by a journaling module, and obtained from their associated data objects stored in one or more storage devices. In various embodiments, such processing of the index and storing of the metadata can facilitate, for example, enhanced data management operations, enhanced data identification operations, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data. In various embodiments, the metabase can be configured in different ways. For example, the metabase can be stored separately from the data objects so as to allow obtaining of information about the data objects without accessing the data objects or a data structure used by a file system.

Abstract: This paper describes an approach for performing recognition and resolution of place names mentioned over the descriptive metadata records of typical digital libraries. Our approach exploits evidence provided by the existing structured attributes within the metadata records to support the place name recognition and resolution, in order to achieve better results than by just using lexical evidence from the textual values of these attributes. In metadata records, lexical evidence is very often insufficient for this task, since short sentences and simple expressions are predominant. Our implementation uses a dictionary based technique for recognition of place names (with names provided by Geonames), and machine learning for reasoning on the evidences and choosing a possible resolution candidate. The evaluation of our approach was performed in data sets with a metadata schema rich in Dublin Core elements. Two evaluation methods were used. First, we used cross-validation, which showed that our solution is able to achieve a very high precision of 0,99 at 0,55 recall, or a recall of 0,79 at 0,86 precision.
