TL;DR: The contrasts between the mission of each repository effort will show the importance of local customization, while the experience of all three institutions forms the basis for recommendations on strategies of benefit to a wide range of librarians and repository planners.
Abstract: Many institutional repositories have pursued a mixed metadata environment, relying on description by multiple workflows. Strategies may include metadata converted from other systems, metadata elicited from the document creator or manager, and metadata created by library or repository staff. Additional editing or proofing may or may not occur. The mixed environment brings challenges of creation, management, and access. In this article, repository efforts at three major universities are discussed. All three repositories run on the DSpace software package, and the opportunities and limitations of that system will be examined. The authors discuss local strategies in light of current thinking on metadata creation, user behavior, and the aggregation of heterogeneous metadata. The contrasts between the mission of each repository effort will show the importance of local customization, while the experience of all three institutions forms the basis for recommendations on strategies of benefit to a wide range of librarians and repository planners.

TL;DR: In this article, an interest-driven data visualization system includes a processor and a memory configured to store an interest driven data visualization application, wherein the interest driven visualization application configures the processor to define reporting data requirements, generate data retrieval job data based on the at least one piece of reporting data metadata and the data description metadata.
Abstract: Systems and methods for interest-driven data visualization systems in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. In one embodiment, an interest-driven data visualization system includes a processor and a memory configured to store an interest-driven data visualization application, wherein the interest-driven data visualization application configures the processor to define reporting data requirements, generate data retrieval job data based on the at least one piece of reporting data metadata and the data description metadata, transmit the data retrieval job data to an interest-driven business intelligence server system, receive aggregate data from the interest-driven business intelligence server system, create at least one piece of reporting data using the received aggregate data, the data description metadata, and the reporting data metadata, generate a report using the at least one piece of reporting data, the reporting data requirements, and the visualization metadata, and generate visualization image data based on the generated report.

21 Apr 2011TL;DR: In this paper, a metadata classification module dynamically reads metadata organization information from the metadata organization database, reads metadata from a metadata database, and organizes the metadata for display to a user in a graphical user interface.
Abstract: In the metadata organization system a metadata classification module dynamically reads metadata organization information, such as, for example, metadata field information, metadata display set information, and metadata category grouping information, from the metadata organization database, reads metadata from a metadata database, and organizes the metadata for display to a user in a graphical user interface. In the graphical user interface, a user may add, delete, and/or modify the metadata in the display. As the user changes the metadata, the metadata database is updated and the user's changes are reflected in the graphical user interface.

03 Dec 2014TL;DR: In this article, a system for improved video editing, summarization and navigation based on the generation and analysis of metadata is described, where the metadata may be content-based (e.g., differences between neighboring frames, exposure data, key frame identification data, motion data, or face detection data) or non-content-based and used to prioritize or classify portions of video.
Abstract: Systems and processes for improved video editing, summarization and navigation based on generation and analysis of metadata are described. The metadata may be content-based (e.g., differences between neighboring frames, exposure data, key frame identification data, motion data, or face detection data) or non-content-based (e.g., exposure, focus, location, time) and used to prioritize and/or classify portions of video. The metadata may be generated at the time of image capture or during post-processing. Prioritization information, such as a score for various portions of the image data may be based on the metadata and/or image data. Classification information such as the type or quality of a scene may be determined based on the metadata and/or image data. The classification and prioritization information may be metadata and may be used to automatically remove undesirable portions of the video, generate suggestions during editing or automatically generate summary video.

18 Aug 2008TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a data stream reference module that can enable a user to perform forward tracing, backward tracing, and tracing indirect dependencies in a data model and/or metadata model.
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention provides a data stream reference module 250 that can enable a user to perform forward tracing, backward tracing, and tracing indirect dependencies in a data model and/or metadata model. The tracing is not necessarily along a common hierarchical level but can be from one level to another.
