TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for converting TV-Anytime metadata into UPnP CDS metadata and a network system using the same is presented, which includes a mapping module for converting the received external digital content metadata into the digital content content metadata peculiar to the network, and a search module for locating a method of accessing a program in a predetermined manner using the unique identifier assigned to each program in the transmitted external content metadata.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for converting digital content metadata received external to a network into digital content metadata peculiar to the network and a network system using the same. Particularly, the present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for converting TV-Anytime metadata into UPnP CDS metadata and a network system using the same. The apparatus for converting digital content metadata according to the present invention includes a mapping module for converting the received external digital content metadata into the digital content metadata peculiar to the network, and a search module for locating a method of accessing a program in a predetermined manner using the unique identifier assigned to each program in the received external digital content metadata.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a data item request that identifies which data items are to be reported and the metadata includes instructions at least partially indicating how the data items should be reported.
Abstract: Embodiments described herein are directed to providing enhanced database editing and reporting capabilities. In one scenario, a computer system receives a data item request that identifies which data items are to be reported. The computer system accesses a relational data store to determine which information sets are to be used for reporting the requested data items. Based on the determination, the computer system accesses those information sets that are to be used in the reporting the requested data items. The computer system then determines that metadata has been provided for at least one of the accessed information sets. The metadata includes instructions at least partially indicating how the data items are to be reported. The computer system also reports the data items according to the instructions in the provided metadata, regardless of how the data items are to be reported using the existing information sets.

TL;DR: A digital library's descriptive (bibliographic) metadata for a large historical document collection encoded in MARC21 is mapped to a historical ontology using an out-of-the-box ontology, existing topic hierarchies on the World Wide Web and other resources.
Abstract: What are the possibilities of Semantic Web technologies for organizations which traditionally have lots of structured data, such as metadata, available? A library is such a particular organization. We mapped a digital library's descriptive (bibliographic) metadata for a large historical document collection encoded in MARC21 to a historical ontology using an out-of-the-box ontology, existing topic hierarchies on the World Wide Web and other resources. We also created and explored useful relations for such an ontology. We show that mapping the metadata to an ontology adds information and makes the existing information more easily accessible for users. The paper discusses various issues that arose during the mapping process. The result of mapping metadata to RDF/OWL is a populated ontology, ready to be deployed.

TL;DR: In this article, a method, system and computer program product for managing source annotation metadata is described, which may include maintaining a set of metadata, maintaining data/metadata relationships between individual units of the metadata and individual unit of the source data, and maintaining metadata/metadata relationship between individual unit's metadata.
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for managing source annotation metadata. The metadata management technique may include maintaining a set of metadata, maintaining data/metadata relationships between individual units of the metadata and individual units of the source data, and maintaining metadata/metadata relationships between individual units of the metadata. The metadata/metadata relationships define two or more intersecting search pathways through the metadata that intersect at one or more metadata units belonging to more than one search domain.

TL;DR: A programmable storage system that lets the designer inject custom balancing logic is introduced that shows the flexibility and transparency of this approach by replicating the strategy of a state-of-the-art metadata balancer and concludes by comparing this strategy to other custom balancers on the same system.
Abstract: Migrating resources is a useful tool for balancing load in a distributed system, but it is difficult to determine when to move resources, where to move resources, and how much of them to move. We look at resource migration for file system metadata and show how CephFS's dynamic subtree partitioning approach can exploit varying degrees of locality and balance because it can partition the namespace into variable sized units. Unfortunately, the current metadata balancer is complicated and difficult to control because it struggles to address many of the general resource migration challenges inherent to the metadata management problem. To help decouple policy from mechanism, we introduce a programmable storage system that lets the designer inject custom balancing logic. We show the flexibility and transparency of this approach by replicating the strategy of a state-of-the-art metadata balancer and conclude by comparing this strategy to other custom balancers on the same system.
