TL;DR: A new approach to subject vocabulary is being investigated for the Dublin Core metadata record, based on the existing vocabulary in Library of Congress Subject Headings, but applied with a simpler syntax than that currently used by libraries according to Library ofCongress application policies.
Abstract: SUMMARY The enormous volume and rapid growth of resources available on the World Wide Web and the emergence of numerous metadata schemes have spurred a re-examination of the way subject data is to be provided for Web resources efficiently and effectively. For the Dublin Core metadata record, a new approach to subject vocabulary is being investigated. This new method, called FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology), is based on the existing vocabulary in Library of Congress Subject Headings (LC), but applied with a simpler syntax than that currently used by libraries according to Library of Congress application policies. In the FAST system, non-topical (i.e., geographic, chronological, and form) data are separated from topical data and placed in different elements provided in the Dublin Core metadata record.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for identifying a first set of metadata associated with a database and retrieving the first set from one or more first memory locations was proposed, which is based on the first sets of metadata.
Abstract: A method includes identifying a first set of metadata associated with a database and retrieving the first set of metadata from one or more first memory locations. The method also includes identifying, based on the first set of metadata, a second set of metadata associated with the database and retrieving the second set of metadata from one or more second memory locations. The method further includes combining the first set of metadata and the second set of metadata into a set of combined metadata.

TL;DR: This paper introduces an MPEG-7 metadata authoring tool that can be used in generating MPEG- 7 metadata data for multimedia contents and mainly relies on MPEG-6 Multimedia Description Schemes for multimedia description generation.
Abstract: Recently an international standard for Multimedia content description, MPEG-7, has been finalized in the 1st phase by reaching the FDIS level. MPEG-7 aims at providing structural and semantic description mechanism for multimedia contents so that content based searching/filtering and access to multimedia content can be possible in conjunction with multimedia description data, that is, MPEG-7 description data. However, the MPEG-7 specifications only specify the syntax and semantics of describing multimedia contents but not authoring content description data. In this paper, we introduce an MPEG-7 metadata authoring tool that can be used in generating MPEG-7 metadata data for multimedia contents. The MPEG-7 metadata authoring system has a generic architecture for MPEG-7 based metadata authoring but mainly relies on MPEG-7 Multimedia Description Schemes for multimedia description generation.

TL;DR: In this article, a priority table in which the priority of each description form is set for each item is held in advance for a metadata item for which a plurality of description forms are present.
Abstract: In storing main information such moving image data and metadata accompanying the main information, for a metadata item for which a plurality of description forms are present, a priority table in which the priority of each description form is set for each item is held in advance. Under limitation conditions related to metadata storage due to the data collection time of metadata or the calculation time of a value corresponding to a description form, a metadata item and description form are employed in descending order of priority held in the priority table (S122) whereby metadata is formed and stored in correspondence with main information (S126). With this arrangement, it is reliably possible to use supplementary information in a form that can be used at least in wide-ranging devices and control schemes, and it is also possible to use supplementary information that can make use of the characteristic feature of each device or control scheme.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of metadata comprising source code annotation information for a software program is maintained, together with data/metadata relationships between individual units of the metadata and individual unit of the source code.
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for software debugging using annotation metadata. A set of metadata comprising source code annotation information for a software program is maintained, together with data/metadata relationships between individual units of the metadata and individual units of the source code. A software debugging point is set that is associated with debugging point metadata comprising one or more units the metadata. A debugging action is performed when execution of the software program reaches said debugging point.
