TL;DR: In this paper, a database server that manages a database retrieves metadata that is stored within the database, in association with a procedure stored in the database; based on the metadata, a web service definition is automatically constructed to describe the procedure as a Web service.
Abstract: A database server that manages a database retrieves metadata that is stored, within the database, in association with a procedure that is stored in the database. Based on the metadata, a Web service definition is automatically constructed to describe the procedure as a Web service. The WSDL definition can be referenced to construct SOAP messages with the appropriate arguments and in the appropriate format which, when received, are converted to a suitable format for invoking execution of the procedure by the database server.

TL;DR: In this paper, a metadata redundancy scheme was proposed for non-volatile memory (NVM) systems, where the user data from each request may be associated with metadata, such as a logical address, flags, or other data.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for storing data to or reading data from a non-volatile memory (“NVM”), such as flash memory, using a metadata redundancy scheme. In some embodiments, an electronic device, which includes an NVM, may also include a memory interface for controlling access to the NVM. The memory interface may receive requests to write user data to the NVM. The user data from each request may be associated with metadata, such as a logical address, flags, or other data. In response to a write request, the NVM interface may store the user data and its associated metadata in a first memory location (e.g., page), and may store a redundant copy of the metadata in a second memory location. This way, even if the first memory location becomes inaccessible, the memory interface can still recover the metadata from the backup copy stored in the second memory location.

TL;DR: The semantic representation of geospatial data and services to enable the semantic search in CSW based on the semantic relationship defined in OWL/OWL-S is explored.
Abstract: Catalogue service plays an important role in helping requestors to find the suitable geospatial data and services over the Web. The Open Geospatial Consortium has developed and recommended an ebRIM profile of Catalogue Services for the Web for implementing a catalogue service. Metadata for data and services registered in CSW is described by following the existing geographic metadata standards usually. The search functionality is limited to the direct match of keywords from metadata without fully utilizing the semantic information implicitly embedded in the metadata, such as hierarchical relationships among metadata entities. Web Ontology Language (OWL) provides a mechanism to enable the use of semantics. OWL-S uses OWL to describe the semantics for Web service. This paper explores the semantic representation of geospatial data and services to enable the semantic search in CSW based on the semantic relationship defined in OWL/OWL-S. Such semantics are organized in CSW through extending ebRIM

TL;DR: This work has implemented indexing structures for NASA remote sensing data stored in the HDF format with a specific schema (HDF-EOS), and shows the performance improvements that are gained from indexing the datasets, compared to using the existing HDF library for accessing the data.
Abstract: Applications that query into very large multidimensional datasets are becoming more common. Many self-describing scientific data file formats have also emerged, which have structural metadata to help navigate the multi-dimensional arrays that are stored in the files. The files may also contain application-specific semantic metadata. In this paper, we discuss efficient methods for performing searches for subsets of multi-dimensional data objects, using semantic information to build multidimensional indexes, and group data items into properly sized chunks to maximize disk I/O bandwidth. This work is the first step in the design and implementation of a generic indexing library that will work with various high-dimension scientific data file formats containing semantic information about the stored data. To validate the approach, we have implemented indexing structures for NASA remote sensing data stored in the HDF format with a specific schema (HDF-EOS), and show the performance improvements that are gained from indexing the datasets, compared to using the existing HDF library for accessing the data.
