TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system for managing objects in a repository with associated metadata including workflow metadata and an application program interface, which can be configured to provide a set of objects in the repository with metadata associated with the at least one event.
Abstract: At least one embodiment includes a system for managing objects. The system may be configured to provide a set of objects in a repository with associated metadata including workflow metadata and an application program interface. The system may determine a first region of interest in a graphical user interface, the first region of interest corresponding to a first time range. The system may retrieve metadata for a first set of objects having workflow metadata indicating at least one event will occur within the first time range, create a first set of nodes representing the first set objects, display the first set of nodes based on a time characteristic of the workflow metadata associated with the at least one event, and perform an action on a corresponding object from the first set of objects.

TL;DR: In this article, the file system metadata associated with file system objects that have been created and/or modified since the last backup is used to generate metadata files for the incremental backup.
Abstract: Metadata generate for incremental backup is disclosed. A subset of blocks used to store file system metadata are identified in a set of blocks changed since a last backup. File system metadata stored in the subset of blocks is used to obtain file system metadata associated with file system objects that have been created and/or modified since the last backup. The file system metadata associated with file system objects that have been created and/or modified since the last backup is used to generate file system metadata files for the incremental backup.

TL;DR: This work describes new semantic search features within the Metacat meta-data system, which is used by many ecological research sites around the world for archiving their data using a standardized metadata format, and adds toMetacat the ability to store OWL-DL ontologies in addition to semantic annotations that link data set attributes to ontology terms.
Abstract: The amount of ecological data available electronically is increasing at a rapid rate, e.g., over 15,000 data sets are available today in the Knowledge Network for Biocom-plexity (KNB) alone. Using the existing search capabilities of these online data repositories, however, scientists struggle to quickly locate data that are relevant to their needs or that will integrate with their current data sets. Semantic technologies aim at addressing many of these problems and hold the promise of enabling more powerful "smart" searches of online data archives. We describe new semantic search features within the Metacat meta-data system, which is used by many ecological research sites around the world for archiving their data using a standardized metadata format. Our semantic search sys-tem adds to Metacat the ability to store OWL-DL ontologies in addition to semantic annotations that link data set attributes to ontology terms. Our approach also extends Metacat to improve metadata search in multiple ways: (i) by expanding standard keyword searches with ontology term hierarchies; (ii) by allowing keyword searches to be applied to annotations in addition to traditional meta-data; and (iii) by allowing more structured searches over annotations via ontology terms. We describe our implementation of these extensions, and compare and contrast these different types of search for a corpus of annotated documents. As data repositories continue to grow, these tools will be instrumental in helping scientists precisely locate and then interpret data for their research needs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose techniques to provide dynamic multi-lingual support for software applications such as analytics, which typically rely on two different types of data, underlying data and metadata, to generate reports.
Abstract: Techniques to provide dynamic multi-lingual support for software applications such as analytics, which typically rely on two different types of data, underlying data and metadata, to generate reports. The metadata defines the underlying data and a presentation layer displays the reports, which may be generated using presentation and metadata layer objects. Each such object may be defined by a language independent representation, which may in turn be associated with multiple display or language dependent representations (i.e., translations or translated strings) for multiple supported languages. One of the languages may be selected for use in a given session, and the display representations for the selected language are then bound to the language independent representations. The binding may be dynamically performed and is session-specific.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rules-based storage and access system retrieves storage rules based upon metadata in received data and executes the storage rules to select a file system in which to store the received data, from a plurality of file systems having different data retrieval characteristics.
Abstract: Data access is controlled using metadata in the data being stored. As consistent with various example embodiments, data is stored on behalf of one or more of a multitude of disparate users and/or applications using the data, based upon metadata in the data itself and storage rules for the metadata. In one implementation, a rules-based storage and access system retrieves storage rules based upon metadata in received data, and executes the storage rules to select a file system in which to store the received data, from a plurality of file systems having different data retrieval characteristics such as speed, security and quality.
