TL;DR: A network storage server system includes a distributed object store and a metadata subsystem that stores metadata relating to the stored data objects and allows data objects to be located and retrieved easily via user-specified search queries.
Abstract: A network storage server system includes a distributed object store and a metadata subsystem. The metadata subsystem stores metadata relating to the stored data objects and allows data objects to be located and retrieved easily via user-specified search queries. It manages and allows searches on at least three categories of metadata via the same user interface and technique. These categories include user-specified metadata, inferred metadata and system-defined metadata. Search queries for the metadata can include multi-predicate queries.

TL;DR: In this article, a computer-implemented method includes parsing a user query to determine whether the user query assigns a field to the first term, parsing resulting in a parsed query that conforms to a predefined format, performing a search in a metadata repository using the parsed query, the metadata repository embodied in a computer readable medium and including triplets generated based on multiple modes of metadata for video content, search identifying a set of candidate scenes from the video content.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes receiving, in a computer system, a user query comprising at least a first term, parsing the user query to at least determine whether the user query assigns a field to the first term, the parsing resulting in a parsed query that conforms to a predefined format, performing a search in a metadata repository using the parsed query, the metadata repository embodied in a computer readable medium and including triplets generated based on multiple modes of metadata for video content, the search identifying a set of candidate scenes from the video content, ranking the set of candidate scenes according to a scoring metric into a ranked scene list, and generating an output from the computer system that includes at least part of the ranked scene list, the output generated in response to the user query.

TL;DR: In this article, a message-based system has a viewer, where the metadata of the message is updated using the embedded information management resources, including at least one of the group of a deadline, a reminder, a deferral and an obligation.
Abstract: A method for providing emergent and flexible workflow management to a user. The user communicates with other users, using a message-based system having embedded information management resources. The message-based system has a viewer. A message is generated at the message-based system. The message has metadata. The metadata of the message is updated using the embedded information management resources. The metadata include at least one of the group of a deadline, a reminder, a deferral and an obligation. The message is sent to the other users. Some of the metadata of the message are displayed on the viewer of the message-based system. Some of the metadata of the message are tracked at the message-based system.

TL;DR: The overall workflow architecture of CERMINE is outlined, details about individual steps implementations are provided and the evaluation of the extraction workflow carried out with the use of a large dataset showed good performance for most metadata types.
Abstract: CERMINE is a comprehensive open-source system for extracting structured metadata from scientific articles in a born-digital form. The system is based on a modular workflow, whose loosely coupled architecture allows for individual component evaluation and adjustment, enables effortless improvements and replacements of independent parts of the algorithm and facilitates future architecture expanding. The implementations of most steps are based on supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, which simplifies the procedure of adapting the system to new document layouts and styles. The evaluation of the extraction workflow carried out with the use of a large dataset showed good performance for most metadata types, with the average F score of 77.5 %. CERMINE system is available under an open-source licence and can be accessed at http://cermine.ceon.pl. In this paper, we outline the overall workflow architecture and provide details about individual steps implementations. We also thoroughly compare CERMINE to similar solutions, describe evaluation methodology and finally report its results.

TL;DR: The first step towards this framework for automatic metadata generation is the definition of an Application Programmer Interface (API), which is called the Simple Indexing Interface (SII), and the second step is the defined a framework for implementation of the SII.
Abstract: In this paper, we focus on the development of a framework for automatic metadata generation. The first step towards this framework is the definition of an Application Programmer Interface (API), which we call the Simple Indexing Interface (SII). The second step is the definition of a framework for implementation of the SII. Both steps are presented in some detail in this paper. We also report on empirical evaluation of the metadata that the SII and supporting framework generated in a real-life context.
