TL;DR: The Warwick Framework is a container architecture for aggregating logically, and perhaps physically, distinct packages of metadata that promotes interoperability and extensibility by allowing tools and agents to selectively access and manipulate individual packages and ignore others.
Abstract: We describe a result of the June 1996 Warwick Metadata II Workshop. This Warwick Framework is a container architecture for aggregating logically, and perhaps physically, distinct packages of metadata. This architecture allows separate administration and access to metadata packages, provides for varying syntax in each package in conformance with semantic requirements, and it promotes interoperability and extensibility by allowing tools and agents to selectively access and manipulate individual packages and ignore others. At the conclusion of the paper we propose implementations of the Framework in HTML, MIME, SGML, and distributed objects.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for searching content is described, which comprises receiving from a first user metadata relating to generating a guide for content, which facilitates navigation of the content on a device.
Abstract: A system and method for searching content. The method comprises receiving from a first user metadata relating to generating a guide for content. A guide is generated relating to the content. The guide facilitates navigation of the content on a device. The metadata is forwarded to a metadata analyzer where the metadata is processed to produce processed metadata. The processed metadata is forwarded to an index server. An index is generated for the content based on the metadata at the index server. A query is received from a second user, the index is searched and a result is forwarded to the second user in response to the query. The result includes at least a uniform resource identifier relating to at least some of content. The second user may add additional metadata relating to the content.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for accessing and sharing metadata among a number of data marts through the use of object referencing is presented, where shared folders containing metadata are contained in the global repository.
Abstract: A method and system for accessing and sharing metadata amongst a number of data marts through the use of object referencing. A global repository is created. Shared folders containing metadata is contained in the global repository. Any number of data marts can be linked to the global repository. Stored within the folders of the linked data marts are references pointing to certain metadata stored in the shared folders of the global repository. Multiple data marts can reference the same metadata in the global repository. Thereby, the same metadata can be accessed, used, and shared by multiple users across different data marts, provided that they have been granted the proper authority. New metadata can be promoted from a linked data mart into the global repository so that it can be shared, and updates to shared metadata can be automatically propagated to all users referencing that metadata.

TL;DR: In this article, a compressed journaling for event tracking files for metadata recovery and replication is proposed. But the journal is not used to store event data and related metadata, instead, the received event data is written to the journal and string arguments are used to minimize recording of redundant information into the journal.
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards employing compressed journaling for event tracking files for metadata recovery and replication. Event data and related metadata are received from one or more client devices. When a feature within the received metadata is detected that is previously unwritten to a journal, then the previously unwritten feature is written to the journal. Further, any feature is detected for the received event data that is determined to be different from a feature associated with an immediately preceding event data that is written in the journal, then the detected different feature is identified in the journal. In one embodiment, the identification employs writing to the journal an effective feature record that may employ indices identifying the different feature. The received event data is also written to the journal and may further employ string arguments to minimize recording of redundant information into the journal.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for a reporting information service using metadata to communicate with databases and a user interface is presented, which includes software in a data access component, a report component, and an interface component for populating, maintaining and dispatching reports responsive to user requests for the reports via metadata.
Abstract: A system and method for a reporting information service using metadata to communicate with databases and a user interface. The invention includes software in a data access component, a report component, and a user interface component for populating, maintaining, and dispatching reports responsive to user requests for the reports via metadata. The data access component provides a logical view of data in a database via data access metadata. The report component populates, maintains, and dispatches reports via report metadata characterizing the reports. The user interface component renders the report dispatched from the report component via user interface metadata specifying rendering attributes for the report.
