Abstract: A system and method for electronic file management includes an object-oriented file management database, a volume manager, and a coherency manager. The volume manager manages electronic files and metadata relating to the files of one or more volumes. Each volume may include folders, files, and/or other digital content. A user interface facilitates user interaction with the file management system. The user interface enables a user to view and manage, within the file management system, metadata associated with the electronic files by graphically displaying information about the files and the metadata and enabling the user to manipulate the files and the metadata.

Abstract: A document management system is adapted to operate with a process management system for recording and viewing metadata of a document. The document metadata is used to record resources referenced while the content of the document is developed. The resources are recorded in the document metadata to identify relationships between the resources and the content of the document. The document content includes links that reference the document metadata stored on a remote server. The resources recorded in the document metadata and the content of the document are simultaneously displayed on a user interface of the document management system to provide context for understanding document history. By storing document metadata and document content separately, the metadata of the document remains consistent even when multiple copies of the document are distributed over a network.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing electronic data are disclosed. Various data management operations can be performed based on a metabase formed from metadata. Such metadata can be identified from an index of data interactions generated by a journaling module, and obtained from their associated data objects stored in one or more storage devices. In various embodiments, such processing of the index and storing of the metadata can facilitate, for example, enhanced data management operations, enhanced data identification operations, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data. In various embodiments, the metabase can be configured in different ways. For example, the metabase can be stored separately from the data objects so as to allow obtaining of information about the data objects without accessing the data objects or a data structure used by a file system.

Abstract: A storage system including hierarchical cache metadata storages includes a cache, a first metadata storage, and a second metadata storage. In one embodiment, the cache may store a plurality of data blocks in a first plurality of locations. The first metadata storage may include a plurality of entries that stores metadata including block addresses of data blocks within the cache. The second metadata storage may include a second plurality of locations for storing metadata including the block addresses identifying the data blocks within the cache. The metadata stored within the second metadata storage may also include pointers to the data blocks within the cache. The cache and the first metadata storage are non-volatile storages. However, the second metadata storage may be a volatile storage.
