Augmenting online content with additional content relevant to user interests

Abstract: A method of gathering information relevant to the interests of a user includes receiving activity history associated with the user from a network data source, where the activity history includes a description of a user action initiated by the user, generating a first metadata item based upon the activity history; and storing the first metadata item as user profile information associated with the user in a user profile database. Generating the first metadata item may include extracting text from the activity history and generating the first metadata item based upon the text. The activity history may include a description of a user action. The method may further include providing a server plugin for performing a second method in response to access of web content on a server by the user, the second method comprising retrieving a content object from the server, determining if the first metadata item is relevant to the content object, adding a web link to the web content as a reference to the content object in response to the content object being relevant to the first metadata item; and providing the web content to the user.

The automatic weather stations NOANN network of the National Observatory of Athens: operation and database

Abstract: During the last 10 years, the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens has developed and operates a network of automated weather stations across Greece. The motivation behind the network development is the monitoring of weather conditions in Greece with the aim to support not only the research needs (weather monitoring and analysis, weather forecast skill evaluation) but also the needs of various communities of the production sector (agriculture, constructions, leisure and tourism, etc.). By the end of 2016, 335 weather stations are in operation, providing real-time data at 10-min intervals. This paper provides information about the logistics of this network, including real-time applications of the collected data as well as information on the quality control protocols, the construction of the station data and metadata repository and the means through which the data are made available to users.

System and method for translating between relational database queries and multidimensional database queries

Abstract: A method for mapping a data source of an unknown configuration to that of a known configuration, comprising the steps of submitting a request for metadata to the data source of the unknown configuration; generating a relational schema from the known configuration based on the metadata received from the data source of the unknown configuration; and returning the metadata of the generated relational schema which maps the data source of the unknown configuration to the known configuration. In a preferred embodiment data source of the unknown configuration is a multidimensional database and the known configuration is a star or snowflake relational schema.

Abstract: A system and method for server-side method for editing metadata in a file, the method including steps of: receiving from a user a request for editing the metadata in the file; presenting a window to the user for display on a user's screen wherein the window displays properties of the metadata; receiving from the user an edit to the metadata properties; and updating the metadata properties with the edit received from the user, for producing an updated metadata.
