26 Jun 2007TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for extracting relevant information from content metadata is provided, where user access to content is monitored and a set of extraction rules for information extraction is selected.
Abstract: A method and system for extracting relevant information from content metadata is provided User access to content is monitored A set of extraction rules for information extraction is selected Key information is extracted from metadata for the content based on the selected extraction rules Additionally, a type for the content can be determined, and a set of extraction rules is selected based on the content type The key information is used in queries for searching information of potential interest to the user, related to the content accessed

TL;DR: In this article, a delta marking stream (DMS) is used to track changes between data locations in the first volume and the second volume using a DMS and metadata is intended to be committed to the DMS.
Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes providing data protection to data in a first volume at a first data protection appliance by storing a copy of the data in a second volume using a second data protection appliance, tracking changes between data locations in the first volume and the second volume using a delta marking stream (DMS) and receiving, at the first data protection appliance, metadata. The metadata is intended to be committed to the DMS. The method further includes mirroring the metadata at a third data protection appliance.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods, apparatus and systems to embed pointer information for metadata in content using a method that will not delete the information, so that metadata correlated with content can be correctly obtained, even after the contents have been edited.
Abstract: The present invention provides methods, apparatus and systems to embed pointer information for metadata in content using a method that will not delete the information, so that metadata correlated with content can be correctly obtained, even after the contents have been edited. In an example embodiment, a user terminal for reproducing multimedia content comprises: a pointer information detector, for detecting pointer information that is embedded in the content and that points to the location of metadata in which information concerning the content is written; a network interface, for employing the pointer information to obtain the metadata via a network; and an index information generator, for employing the metadata to generate index information that is correlated with the data structure of the digital content.

24 Mar 2003TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for user modification of metadata in a shell browser is presented, where a group of items and associated metadata values are displayed in a window of the shell browser.
Abstract: A system and method for user modification of metadata in a shell browser. A group of items and associated metadata values are displayed in a window of the shell browser. An edit control permits user modification of metadata values displayed in the window. The user can modify metadata associated with a welcome pane, a selected item, or multiple selected items. A data structure stored on one or more computer-readable media contains metadata associated with items displayed in a shell browser, including user modifiable metadata which is also displayed in the shell browser.

04 Sep 2009TL;DR: In this article, a logging system includes an event receiver and a storage manager, where the receiver receives log data, processes it, and outputs a column-based data "chunk" which acts as a search index when querying event data.
Abstract: A logging system includes an event receiver and a storage manager. The receiver receives log data, processes it, and outputs a column-based data “chunk.” The manager receives and stores chunks. The receiver includes buffers that store events and a metadata structure that stores metadata about the contents of the buffers. Each buffer is associated with a particular event field and includes values from that field from one or more events. The metadata includes, for each “field of interest,” a minimum value and a maximum value that reflect the range of values of that field over all of the events in the buffers. A chunk is generated for each buffer and includes the metadata structure and a compressed version of the buffer contents. The metadata structure acts as a search index when querying event data. The logging system can be used in conjunction with a security information/event management (SIEM) system.
