01 Feb 2007TL;DR: The experimental results show that, by using INFOMAP, this paper can extract author, title, journal, volume, number (issue), year, and page information from different kinds of reference styles with a high degree of precision.
Abstract: The integration of bibliographical information on scholarly publications available on the Internet is an important task in the academic community. Accurate reference metadata extraction from such publications is essential for the integration of metadata from heterogeneous reference sources. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical template-based reference metadata extraction method for scholarly publications. We adopt a hierarchical knowledge representation framework called INFOMAP, which automatically extracts metadata. The experimental results show that, by using INFOMAP, we can extract author, title, journal, volume, number (issue), year, and page information from different kinds of reference styles with a high degree of precision. The overall average accuracy is 92.39% for the six major reference styles compared in this study.

TL;DR: In this article, an automated metadata discovery, assignment, and submission system is described, which includes a photosharing service coupled to a network through a server, where the server stores metadata fields.
Abstract: An automated metadata discovery, assignment, and submission system is disclosed. The system includes a photosharing service coupled to a network through a server, where the server stores metadata fields. The system also includes at least one client computer capable of communicating with the server over the network, where the client computer stores a plurality digital files and an automation application. When executed, the automation application establishes communication with the photosharing service and downloads the metadata fields. The content of a first file is then automatically analyzed and one or metadata values are assigned to the downloaded metadata fields based on the analysis. In addition, the automation application automatically discovers any pre-existing metadata values associated with the file and uses the metadata values to populate corresponding downloaded metadata fields. Both the pre-existing and automatically assigned metadata values are then displayed to the user for viewing and editing. The metadata values assigned to the file are recoded for use with a next image, and the file and the metadata values are uploaded to the photosharing service for storage.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a portal for interactively viewing enterprise metadata, including a memory for storing a data structure in the form of a graph, with nodes representing asset metadata for enterprise data assets and edges representing relationships between asset metadata.
Abstract: A portal for interactively viewing enterprise metadata, including a memory for storing a data structure in the form of a graph, with nodes representing asset metadata for enterprise data assets and edges representing relationships between asset metadata, a path finder for generating at least one path within the graph satisfying prescribed constraints, and a report generator for generating a report about the graph, based on paths generated by the path finder. A method and computer readable storage medium are also described and claimed.

18 Jul 2003TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a system that provides the user with integrated, contemporaneous property data directly related to the media file being played, providing automatic, integrated access to data from multiple databases, simply by accessing a related media file through a media player.
Abstract: Methods, computer readable mediums and systems provide media player users with a full contextual metadata experience. Metadata include multiple forms of property data, or information, relating to media accessed by a media player, such as a CD in a CD-ROM drive of a computer. Metadata is transferred from a server to a client. Identification parameters associated with the accessed media file are submitted by the client to a server, and property data is retrieved and forwarded to the client. The metadata provides the user with integrated, contemporaneous property data directly related to the media file being played, providing automatic, integrated access to data from multiple databases, simply by accessing a related media file through a media player, without further direction from the user.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and architecture is described that discovers software application metadata and generates data access applications based on the discovered software application meta-data, along with handcrafted metadata, which is converted into common, generic abstract metadata objects.
Abstract: A method and architecture is described that discovers software application metadata and generates data access applications based on the discovered software application metadata. The discovered metadata along with handcrafted metadata goes through a discovery process and is converted into common, generic abstract metadata objects. The abstract metadata objects then go through an instantiation process to be translated into concrete metadata objects that represent the unique configuration, context and terminology of the source software application. The concrete metadata objects can be generated into numerous forms for the purposes of data access and information sharing. The system also has upgrade protection.
