TL;DR: The first results of the empirical analysis for the actual use that is made of metadata in Learning Object Repositories are presented, more specifically in the ARIADNE Knowledge Pool System (KPS).
Abstract: In this paper, we present the first results of our empirical analysis for the actual use that is made of metadata in Learning Object Repositories, more specifically in the ARIADNE Knowledge Pool System (KPS). We analyze metadata information provided by indexers when they introduce new learning objects into the KPS. This gives a clear indication about their understanding of metadata elements, values, etc. Finally, we study the correlation between metadata elements filled-in by those indexers. These results provide us with empirical guidelines to asses the development of application profiles and metadata toolsets.

TL;DR: In this article, a computer automatically reads each object in a metadata that is descriptive of a database, and applies a number of rules, to check if the object triggers a rule. If so, then the computer automatically changes the metadata as per an action identified by the triggered rule.
Abstract: A computer automatically reads each object in a metadata that is descriptive of a database. Then the computer automatically applies a number of rules, to check if the object triggers a rule. If so, then the computer automatically changes the metadata as per an action identified by the triggered rule. After all rules are applied to the object, and after all objects in the metadata are processed, the resulting metadata is used to change the database's structure. The objects may be read from the metadata in an order (e.g. hierarchy) specified in meta-metadata that is descriptive of the metadata.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of organizing streamed data includes storing streamed data in a file, identifying metadata applicable to a subset of the streamed data, and forming at least one group of one or more samples of the stream data, each sample in a group having identical metadata content for a metadata type.
Abstract: A method of organizing streamed data includes storing streamed data in a file, identifying metadata applicable to a subset of the streamed data, and forming at least one group of one or more samples of the streamed data, each sample in a group having identical metadata content for a metadata type. The file may be in accordance with ISO base media file format. The storing streamed data in a file may include storing in a reception hint track. The at least one group may be indicated in a sample group description box. The metadata type may be indicated by a grouping type and grouping instance data, the grouping type specifying semantics of the grouping instance data and the metadata content. The metadata content may comprise a metadata payload and zero or more metadata payload extensions, where the metadata payload is included in a first structure and the zero or more metadata payload extensions are included in a second structure.

TL;DR: In this article, a central office may identify a data type and a temporal segment based on metadata associated with the request, which can identify temporal segments of content associated with a media asset and can identify asset data types.
Abstract: Metadata can identify temporal segments of content associated with a media asset and can identify asset data types. In response to a request for a particular asset, a central office may identify a data type and a temporal segment based on metadata associated with the request.

TL;DR: In this paper, a metadata registry maintains metadata about content stored in both compatible and non-compatible repositories, and a repository interface registry maintains information about available repository interfaces, thus allowing the systems and methods to be extended to be able to access additional noncompatible repositories.
Abstract: Systems and methods access non-compatible content repositories that are not natively accessible to a content management system. A metadata registry maintains metadata about content stored in both compatible and non-compatible repositories. For content in a non-compatible repository, the metadata indicates a repository interface capable of accessing the non-compatible repository. The content manager communicates with the repository interfaces to access the content in non-compatible repositories. The content manager may receive a request for content in a non-compatible repository, refer to the metadata registry to select a repository interface to employ, transmit a request for the requested content to the selected repository interface, and receive the requested content from the repository interface. A repository interface registry maintains information about available repository interfaces. Entries may be added to either the metadata registry and the repository interface registry, thus allowing the systems and methods to be extended to be able to access additional non-compatible repositories.
