TL;DR: In this article, the Pomeranchuk instability and unconventional, non-Fermi liquid type properties arise due to the tuning of the van Hove singularity of either a majority or a minority spin band to the vicinity of the Fermi energy by a magnetic field.
Abstract: We show that many salient features observed around the metamagnetic transition in Sr 3 Ru 2 O 7 are described within a simple model, which considers only an instability of the Fermi surface symmetry breaking (Pomeranchuk instability), without invoking a putative metamagnetic quantum critical end point as usually assumed for this compound. In our model, the Pomeranchuk instability and unconventional, non-Fermi liquid type properties arise due to the tuning of the van Hove singularity of either a majority or a minority spin band to the vicinity of the Fermi energy by a magnetic field. The obtained phase diagram, the metamagnetic transition, and the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat show striking similarities to the experimental data.

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that the metamagnetic transition which is experimentally observed in certain antiferromagnetic superconductors results in the formation of magnetic domain structure if the demagnetization factor of the sample is nonzero.

TL;DR: In this article, the free radicals 1,3,5-triphenyl-6thio-verdazyl (TPTV), 1.5-diphenyl, 3-thienyl-5-6-thiosmidevazyl(DPTTV), and 1.3, 5-triphensyl-7-oxo-verdorizyl(TPOV) were magnetically characterized by SQUID magnetometry, specific heat and electron spin resonance.
Abstract: Crystalline samples of the free radicals 1,3,5-triphenyl-6-thio-verdazyl (TPTV), 1,5-diphenyl-3-thienyl-6-thio-verdazyl (DPTTV), 1,3,5-triphenyl-6-oxo-verdazyl (TPOV) and 1,5-diphenyl-3-thienyl-6-oxo-verdazyl (DPTOV) were magnetically characterized by SQUID magnetometry, specific heat and electron spin resonance. The strength of antiferromagnetic exchange interaction is increased by almost an order of magnitude in thio-verdazyls compared to the familiar verdazyl 1,3,5-triphenyl-verdazyl. Magnetic order at above 5 K and hysteresis loops with very low field metamagnetic transitions are observed in both oxo-verdazyls.
