Abstract: INTRODUCTION Numerical methods for the scattering problem of dielectric gratings appeared s o far are effective only for the gratings with infinite extent. They can be applicable to the gratings with hundreds or thousands corrugations used in the optical frequency range, but not to the gratings with less than those corrugations in the millimeter or short millimeter wave ranges. For such gratings. the effect of the finite extent of them should be taken into account carefully, but there is no effective method to know it.
