TL;DR: In this article, a spectrophotometric extraction method for milligram levels of plutonium is described, which is applicable to the range of 2.0 to 15 mg of plutonium with a 0.3% standard deviation of the 12.3 mg level.
Abstract: A spectrophotometric extraction method for milligram levels of plutonium is described. Following a silver (II) oxidation, plutonium(VI) as the tetrapropylammonium trinitrate complex is extracted quantitatively into methyl isobutyl ketone from an acid-deficient aluminum nitrate salting solution. Though uranium and neptunium are extracted also, their spectra are sufficiently discrete so that a direct absorbance measurement of the separated organic phase can be made for plutonium in the presence of the other two actinides. The method is fast, gives excellent decontamination from fission product nuclides, and is virtually free of diverse ion interference. It is applicable to the range of 2.0 to 15 mg of plutonium with a 0.3% standard deviation of the 12.3-mg level, comparing favorably with redox titrimetric and coulometric methods. A method for the simultaneous determination of plutonium and uranium is described. (auth)

TL;DR: A method for the determination of magnesium by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry, after extraction into an organic solvent, has been developed as mentioned in this paper, where magnesium is extracted as an 8-hydroxyquinolate or 8hydroxyquinaldate complex into methyl isobutyl ketone.

TL;DR: The experimental data were compared with predicted values obtained from the UNIFAC method and the reliability of the data was ascertained from Othmer−Tobias plots.
Abstract: Liquid−liquid equilibrium data of water + acetic acid + propionic acid + solvent (butyronitrile, benzyl acetate, and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK)) quaternary systems were measured. Complete phase diagrams were obtained by determining solubility curves and tie-line data at 298.15 K. The experimental data were compared with predicted values obtained from the UNIFAC method. Selectivity values for solvent separation efficiency were derived from the tie-line data. A comparison of the extracting capabilities of the solvents was made with respect to distribution coefficients, separation factors, and solvent-free selectivity bases. The reliability of the data was ascertained from Othmer−Tobias plots. We conclude that the performance of the solvents increases in the order of butyronitrile, MIBK, and benzyl acetate.

TL;DR: Dynamic and flow-through flux chambers are convenient tools for field measurements of gas or VOC emission flux from solid surfaces in the field and analyses show that hexanal was the common and principal compound for all three types of tracks.
