TL;DR: In this article, the degradation rates of toluene, xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), methyl isobutyl ketones (MIBK), and n-butyl acetate (n-BA) were investigated in a biotrickling filter reactor packed with polypropylene rings in a countercurrent air-water mode of operation.
Abstract: Interactions amongst the degradation rates of toluene, xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), and n-butyl acetate (n-BA) were investigated. Experiments were performed in a biotrickling filter reactor packed with polypropylene Pall rings in a counter-current air-water mode of operation. Under pseudo-steady-state conditions, the removal efficiency (RE) of the individual components in the middle of and at the effluent above the reactor bed was evaluated. By using a mixed microbial culture as the biocatalyst, the results revealed that an increased loading of toluene and xylene had a competitive effect on the RE of MIBK. After reaching a saturation point of the overall catabolic capacity of the biocatalyst, variations of RE were observed for the different components. This was most pronounced under conditions of overloading with the water-soluble components mixture. Despite such variations, the system was able to efficiently degrade this complex pollutant mixture for a period of 1 yr.

TL;DR: A simple and rapid method has been developed for the extraction of Fe, Ni, Cr and Mn in drinking water samples with a new reagent, pentamethylene dithiocarbamate, into methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and their subsequent determination by atomic-absorption spectrometry.

TL;DR: The sensitivity of SML was improved considerably and found to be comparable to benchmark polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) resist without affecting the aspect ratio performance.
Abstract: A detailed process characterization of SML electron beam resist for high-aspect-ratio nanopatterning at high sensitivity is presented. SML contrast curves were generated for methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), MIBK/isopropyl alcohol (IPA) (1:3), IPA/water (7:3), n-amyl acetate, xylene, and xylene/methanol (3:1) developers. Using IPA/water developer, the sensitivity of SML was improved considerably and found to be comparable to benchmark polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) resist without affecting the aspect ratio performance. Employing 30-keV exposures and ultrasonic IPA/water development, an aspect ratio of 9:1 in 50-nm half-pitch dense grating patterns was achieved representing a greater than two times improvement over PMMA. Through demonstration of 25-nm lift-off features, the pattern transfer performance of SML is also addressed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a bench scale system was used to measure the equilibrium adsorption isotherms of n-heptane, n-butanol, and methyl isobutyl ketone at a concentration range of 50 to 900 ppm on a Columbia JXC activated carbon.
Abstract: A bench scale system to measure adsorption of organic vapors on activated carbon is described in this report. The system was used to measure the equilibrium adsorption isotherms of n-heptane, n-butanol, and methyl isobutyl ketone at a concentration range of 50 to 900 ppm on a Columbia JXC activated carbon and the adsorption capacity of eleven additional solvents at a concentration of 365 ppm. It is found that the Polyani–Dubinin correlation describes the results well. Using n-heptane as a reference solvent, the mean error in the prediction of equilibrium adsorption capacity is 1.9% and the maximum error 7.2%.
