Abstract: s-Indacene derivatives are obtained as single diastereoisomers by a Robinson-type annulation of 2,5-cyclohexandione-1,4-dicarboxylates with methyl vinyl ketone. Hydrogenative debenzylation and subsequent decarboxylation yields tricyclic products with a central aromatic ring.
