Processing effects of nanometric rare earth-doped tin oxides on the synthesis of methyl vinyl ketone

Abstract: Nanoparticle catalysts based on SnO2 were processed by two different methods, viz.the polymeric precursor and high-energy mechanical milling. The sample morphology and catalytic performance in the aldol condensation between methanol and acetone were modified by the processing and rare earth doping.

First Application of Air-Stableand Reusable Phosphine-Containing Calix[4]arenein Catalytic Aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman Reaction

Abstract: For the first time, the aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction of N-sulfonated imines with methyl vinyl ketone was catalyzed by 5,11,17,23-tetrabutyl-25-(diphenylphosphinomethoxy)-26,27,28-trihydroxycalix[4]arene (LB1), an air-stable, easily isolated and reusable catalyst. Great acceleration of the reaction was observed and the aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts were produced in excellent yields within short reaction time.

Abstract: The reaction of methyl vinyl ketone with N-Phenyl-hydroxylamine leads to a tautomeric mixture of 5-hydroxy-2-phenyl-5-methylisoxazolidine and its linear form, while the reaction with benzohydroxamic acid leads to linear products of addition to the oxygen or nitrogen atoms, depending on the reaction conditions. The first representatives of 5-hydroxyisoxazolidines with the residue of an aliphatic carboxylic acid attached to the nitrogen atom were obtained by acylation of 5-hydroxy-3,3,5-trimethylisoxazolidine.

Direct synthesis of 2,6-disubstituted pyridines from bicyclic ketals

Abstract: 6,8-Dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes 1, prepared from methyl vinyl ketone dimer, have been readily converted into 2,6-disubstituted pyridine derivatives 2 in one step by treatment with AlCl3–NH2OH·HCl/AcOH. The transformation mechanism of this reaction has been studied by the preparation of a deuterium labelled 1,5-diketone, which was transformed into a pyridine via a dioxime, from the bicyclic ketal.
