TL;DR: A more direct approach to measuring land prices, using a unique data set, reveals that the price of unimproved land in the New York area is high, and rose sharply from 1999 to 2006.
Abstract: The price of vacant land in an urban area is a fundamental indicator of an area's attractiveness. However, because the value of vacant land is hard to measure, indirect methods are typically used to gauge prices. A more direct approach to measuring land prices, using a unique data set, reveals that the price of unimproved land in the New York area is high, and rose sharply from 1999 to 2006. The rising trend suggests the underlying strength of the area's economy and the increasing value of the area's productivity and amenities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results from a comprehensive international survey of urban freight management strategies and assess their transferability for U.S. implementation, including last-mile or first-mile deliveries and pickups, environmental mitigation, and trade node strategies.
Abstract: Freight movement is essential to the function of metropolitan areas, yet generates many externalities, including congestion, air pollution, noise, and greenhouse gas emissions. Metropolitan areas around the world are seeking ways to manage urban freight and its impacts. This paper presents the results from a comprehensive international survey of urban freight management strategies. The objective was to examine the effectiveness of alternative strategies and assess their transferability for U.S. implementation. Three categories were used to describe urban freight strategies: last-mile or first-mile deliveries and pickups, environmental mitigation, and trade node strategies. Many possibilities were found for the improved management of urban freight and its impacts; these possibilities included labeling and certification programs, incentive-based programs for voluntary emissions reduction, local land use and parking policies, and more stringent national fuel efficiency and emissions standards for heavy-duty ...

TL;DR: The relationship between human capital and economic activity in US metropolitan areas is examined in this paper, extending the literature in two ways: first, new data on metropolitan area gross domestic product are utilized to measure economic activity.
Abstract: Abel J. R. and Gabe T. M. Human capital and economic activity in urban America, Regional Studies. The relationship between human capital and economic activity in US metropolitan areas is examined, extending the literature in two ways. First, new data on metropolitan area gross domestic product are utilized to measure economic activity. Results show that a 1 percentage point increase in the proportion of residents with a college degree is associated with about a 2% increase in metropolitan area gross domestic product per capita. Second, measures of human capital are developed that reflect the types of knowledge within US metropolitan areas. Regional knowledge stocks related to the provision of producer services and information technology are important determinants of economic vitality. Abel J. R. et Gabe T. M. Le capital humain et l'activite economique dans l'Amerique urbaine, Regional Studies. On examine le rapport entre le capital humain et l'activite economique dans les zones metropolitaines aux Etats-U...
