TL;DR: The complete chloroplast genome of Michelia alba DC was reported, and a phylogenetic analysis showed that M. alba is closely related to M. odora, with the genus Michelia nested inside Magnolia.
Abstract: Magnoliaceae are both economically and ornamentally important trees. Despite extensive studies in this family, the taxonomy of Michelia L. remains unclear, as well as the taxonomical status of Michelia alba. Herein, we report the complete chloroplast genome of M. alba DC. The chloroplast genome was 159,789 bp in length, with a large single-copy (LSC) region of 87,951 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,798 bp, separated by two inverted repeat (IRs) regions of 26,570 bp. It contained 156 genes, including 83 coding genes, 68 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content was 39.3%, and 43.2%, 38.0%, 34.3%, in the IRs, LSC, and SSC regions, respectively. A phylogenetic analysis showed that M. alba is closely related to M. odora, with the genus Michelia nested inside Magnolia.

TL;DR: Similarities in seedling morphology rightly support the placement of Michelia under the genus Magnolia as treated recently and conservation programmes of these plants can be planned through their identification at juvenile stages in natural sites.
Abstract: Seedling morphology of five species of Magnolia from different districts of West Bengal (India) were studied. The germination is epigeal, phanercotylar type. The seedlings are distinguishable on the basis of features like hypocotyl; shape, apex, and venation of paracotyledons; first two leaves and subsequent leaves have been considered also as key characters for the easy identification of the plants at juvenile stage. Similarities in seedling morphology rightly support the placement of Michelia under the genus Magnolia as treated recently. These taxa are facing various degrees of threats, mainly due to exploitation for their commercial potential as timber-yielding plants, horticultural and medicinal plants. Consequently, conservation programmes of these plants can be planned through their identification at juvenile stages in natural sites.

TL;DR: The results showed that the relative electrical conductivity of six varieties of Michelia was significantly positively correlated with the semilethal low temperature (LT50) of 3 h 0-25 ℃ treatment.
Abstract: Taking six varieties of Michelia as test materials, their responses under cold situation in the field were investigated and the semilethal low temperatures were calculated by fitting Logistic equation. The nine structure indexes of leaf tissue were observed by paraffin section, and a comprehensive evaluation on cold resistance of different varieties was given according to subordinate function value analysis. The results showed that the relative electrical conductivity of six varieties of Michelia was significantly positively correlated with the semilethal low temperature (LT50) of 3 h 0-25 ℃ treatment. From high to low, the order of LT50, which ranged between -20.48 ℃and -8.67 ℃, was M. maudiae > M. maudiae var. rubicunda > M. wilsonii > M. 'liubanhanxiao' ♀× M. shiluensis ♂ > M. platypetala > M. 'liubanhanxiao'. The epidermal anticlinal walls of six varieties of Michelia leaves had 1-2 layers and showed slightly sinuated shape. The leaf had 1-3 layers of palisade tissue cells and the differences among the indexes of nine anatomical structures were extremely significant. The thickness of palisade tissue, ratio between palisade tissue and spongy tissue, and thickness of the vein were the key factors affecting cold resistance. The order of cold resistance of six varieties of Michelia, from the strong to the weak, was M. 'liubanhanxiao' > M. platypetala > M. 'liubanhanxiao' ♀× M. shiluensis ♂>M. wilsonii > M. maudiae var. rubicunda > M. maudiae, which was basically consistent with the result of field investigation.

TL;DR: In this paper, an anti-oxidation composition, a cosmetic and application, is described, which uses the tomato antioxidant elements and the michelia alba extracts as major active ingredients.
Abstract: The invention discloses an anti-oxidation composition, a cosmetic and application. The anti-oxidation composition is prepared from 0.2 to 3 mass parts of tomato antioxidant elements and 0.5 to 5 mass parts of michelia alba extracts. The anti-oxidation composition uses the tomato antioxidant elements and the michelia alba extracts as major active ingredients; the tomato antioxidant elements and the michelia alba extracts are compounded according to a limited proportion; the composition and the cosmetic have a good anti-oxidation effect; in the proportion, the tomato antioxidant elements can fully achieve the anti-oxidation activity effect and take a synergistic effect with the michelia alba extracts.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for prompting germination of michelia alba planted in a cuttage manner was proposed, in which a thin film was used to wrap two ends of the magnolia tree branches and placing them in an activator solution for 20-30 min.
Abstract: The invention discloses a method for prompting germination of michelia alba planted in a cuttage manner. The method comprises the following operation steps: (1) obtaining magnolia tree branches which are 8 to 12 cm long, using a thin film to wrap two ends of the magnolia tree branches and placing the magnolia tree branches for heating about 3-5 min in the environment of 10-40 MHz; (2) taking the michelia alba branches heated in the step (1), removing the thin film and then putting the magnolia tree branches into an activator solution for soaking the branches for 20-30 min. The method for prompting germination of michelia alba planted in a cuttage manner has following beneficial effects: michelia alba branches are heated at frequency of 10-40 MHz; during heating, the temperature of branch barks increases rapidly so that excitation of bud eyes of the michelia alba is effectively prompted; after heating, an activator is utilized for subsequent processing of the magnolia trees such that the michelia alba can rapidly germinate during subsequent plantation; and the method is simple in operation, and low in cost and causes almost no side effect on the michelia alba.
