TL;DR: The need for stigma reduction campaigns for Chinese social media users to improve their attitudes towards those who broadcast their suicide attempts on social media is confirmed.
Abstract: Introduction. Broadcasting a suicide attempt on social media has become a public health concern in many countries, particularly in China. In these cases, social media users are likely to be the first to witness the suicide attempt, and their attitudes may determine their likelihood of joining rescue efforts. This paper examines Chinese social media (Weibo) users' attitudes towards suicide attempts broadcast on Weibo.

Abstract: In this paper we briefly examine the use of Twitter in Iran, Tunisia and Egypt during the mass political demonstrations and protests in June 2009, December 2010 and January 2011 respectively. We compare this usage with methods and findings from other studies on the use of Twitter in emergency situations, such as natural and man-made disasters. We draw on my own experiences and participant-observations as an eyewitness in Iran, and on Twitter data from Tunisia and Egypt. In these three cases, Twitter filled a unique technology and communication gap at least partially. We summarize suggested directions for future research with a view of placing this work in the larger context of social media use in conditions of crisis or social convergence.

Abstract: Today microblogging has become a very common platform for exchanging opinion among us. Many users exchange their thoughts on various aspects of their activity. Consequently, microblogging Web sites are the substantial origin of information for sentiment analysis and opinion mining. Twitter is a famous microblogging Web site where 500 million tweets are posted every day. In this manuscript, we summarize the data set of Twitter messages related to recent 14th Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election, 2017, for predicting the chances of winning party by utilizing public’s opinion. We use NRC Emotion Lexicon to determine the overall tone of the event by eight emotions. Furthermore, we use a deep learning tool named ParallelDots AI APIs by ParallelDots, Inc. that can analyze the sentiment into positive, negative, and neutral. This tool helped to extract various people’s sentiment and summarize the results for further decision making.

Abstract: Many politicians as well as journalists are using Twitter regularly and are connected on the microblogging platform. We use the agenda-building approach as conceptual background because political tweets can serve as information subsidies if they are used by journalists, indicating an agenda-building influence by politicians. It has not yet been systematically investigated which functions of a political tweet make it more likely for it to be used by a journalist and to which extent the journalist’s Twitter network plays a role in this process. We analyze which functions of political tweets explain their use as information subsidies and integrate the influence of the journalists’ Twitter networks. The study is based on a unique combination of an online survey of Swiss journalists in 2014 with an analysis of the journalists’ Twitter metrics. It demonstrates that political tweets are most likely to be used by journalists if they can quote the politicians’ tweets, which fosters their significance as informatio...
