TL;DR: In this paper, video image data are acquired on a UAV and transmitted to the missile where they are processed to provide guidance control data to the target and the missile, either via the UAV or via a command station.
Abstract: In a CLOS missile guidance system, target and missile tracking data e.g. video image data are acquired on a UAV and transmitted to the missile where they are processed to provide guidance control data to the missile. Alternatively the video image data may be transmitted to a command station where the guidance control data is generated and transmitted to the missile, preferably via the UAV.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the dynamics of a self-guided anti-aircraft system during the launch of a single-missile system and present the results of the computer simulation of motion of the system.
Abstract: The analysis focuses on the dynamics of a hypothetical anti-aircraft system during the missile launch. The results of the computer simulation of motion of the launcher-missile system are represented graphically. The diagrams provide information about the range of kinematic excitations acting on the opto-electro-mechanical coordinator of the target in a self-guided missile.

TL;DR: An improved railroad missile garrison system, which helps to reduce the dangers to the civilian population, by providing a computerized system for issuing track warrants to missile trains and other non-military trains, and by providing for remote intervention of the throttle and brake functions on the missile train locomotives as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: This is the first time that a reinforcement learning algorithm with guaranteed convergence for general function approximation systems has been demonstrated to work with a general neural network.
Abstract: An application of reinforcement learning to a differential game is presented. The reinforcement learning system uses a recently developed algorithm, the residual form of advantage learning. The game is a Markov decision process (MDP) with continuous states and nonlinear dynamics. The game consists of two players, a missile and a plane; the missile pursues the plane and the plane evades the missile. On each time step each player chooses one of two possible actions; turn left or rum right 90 degrees. Reinforcement is given only when the missile hits the plane or the plane reaches an escape distance from the missile. The advantage function is stored in a single-hidden-layer sigmoidal network. The reinforcement learning algorithm for optimal control is modified for differential games in order to find the minimax point, rather than the maximum. As far as we know, this is the first time that a reinforcement learning algorithm with guaranteed convergence for general function approximation systems has been demonstrated to work with a general neural network.

TL;DR: This work has developed an architecture analysis methodology to maximize the value of the TMD architecture subject to life cycle budget constraints, and developed a demonstration model to illustrate the methodology to Theater Missile Defense architecture decision-makers.
Abstract: The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization manages the design, development, and acquisition of theater missile defense (TMD) systems to provide an integrated TMD architecture. They face the challenging decision of selecting the architecture that best meets mission performance objectives and life cycle budgetary constraints. To provide a TMD analysis tool, we have developed an architecture analysis methodology to maximize the value of the TMD architecture subject to life cycle budget constraints. We used the Joint Doctrine, the Mission Need Statement, and the Operational Requirements Document to qualitatively define TMD architecture value. We then used multiobjective decision analysis to quantitatively define the value of each potential TMD architecture. We used decision trees to determine the best TMD targeting strategies. Finally, we used optimization to determine optimal architectures and missile procurement levels for given life cycle (R&D and procurement) budget constraints. We developed a demonstration model to illustrate the methodology to Theater Missile Defense architecture decision-makers. The demonstration model can be expanded to add additional objectives, systems, and programmatic constraints. Although our demonstration model has focused on TMD architectures, we believe that the methodology can be applied to national missile defense and many other complex government and private industry architectures. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
