TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a location-based social network manager process, which is executed on a server computer coupled to a plurality of location-aware mobile communication devices over a wireless network.
Abstract: Embodiments of a location-based social network manager process are described. The process is executed on a server computer coupled to a plurality of location-aware mobile communication devices over a wireless network. The process determines the geographic location of a mobile communication device operated by a user within an area, displays a map representation of the area around the mobile communication device on a graphical user interface of the mobile communication device, and superimposes on the map the respective locations of one or more other users of mobile communication devices coupled to the mobile communication device over the network. The process establishes communication links between the user and the plurality of acquaintances through respective location aware mobile communication devices through a network protocol. The process facilitates the sharing information about places of interest among a plurality of users. The system stores location information for a place of interest in a region in a database along with information related to the place of interest. The location of the place of interest is displayed on each user's mobile communication device as an icon superimposed on the map shown on the display. The location of the users can be established with respect to their distance relative to a place of interest. Users can define their own places of interest as well as provide a quantitative or qualitative ranking for places of interest within a region. This information can then be shared with other users in the network.

TL;DR: In this paper, an emergency number for use by a mobile communications device enabled for Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications is automatically selected by using a geographic indicator in a beacon frame transmitted from a wireless access point of a wireless local area network connected to an Internet Protocol network.
Abstract: Automatically selecting an emergency number for use by a mobile communications device enabled for Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications, including: receiving at the mobile communications device a geographic indicator in a beacon frame transmitted from a wireless access point of a wireless local area network that is connected to an Internet Protocol network; and determining from a plurality of emergency numbers stored in a storage element of the mobile communications device a selected emergency number in dependence on the received geographic indicator.

TL;DR: The proposed MobiCloud framework enhances the operation of the ad hoc network itself by treating mobile devices as service nodes and will enhance communication by addressing trust management, secure routing, and risk management issues in the network.
Abstract: Cloud services can greatly enhance the computing capability of mobile devices. Mobile users can rely on the cloud to perform computationally intensive operations such as searching, data mining, and multimedia processing. In this paper, we propose a new mobile cloud framework called MobiCloud. In addition to providing traditional computation services, MobiCloud also enhances the operation of the ad hoc network itself by treating mobile devices as service nodes. The MobiCloud framework will enhance communication by addressing trust management, secure routing, and risk management issues in the network. A new class of applications can be developed using the enhanced processing power and connectivity provided by MobiCloud. Open research issues for MobiCloud are also discussed to outline future research directions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a communication system including mobile communication devices is described, where the mobile devices may be wrist-worn watches such as are in common use today, except that the watches are specially configured to receive data in a "broadcast" mode and transmit and/or receive data (localcast) mode.
Abstract: Described is a communication system including mobile communication devices. In the described system, the mobile devices may be wrist-worn watches such as are in common use today, except that the watches are specially configured to receive data in a “broadcast” mode and transmit and/or receive data in a “localcast” mode. The localcast mode includes the ability to transmit and receive data in a peer-to-peer fashion, allowing mobile devices to communicate directly with each other. The ability to combine two of these communication modes in a small, integrated and hence inexpensive and low-power package provides many advantages over existing personal communication device solutions.
