TL;DR: A partitioning-based algorithm is presented that schedules the movements of MEs in a sensor network such that there is no data loss due to buffer overflow and the proposed Partitioning Based Scheduling (PBS) algorithm performs well in terms of reducing the minimum required ME speed to prevent data loss.
Abstract: In recent studies, using mobile elements (MEs) as mechanical carriers of data has been shown to be an effective way of prolonging sensor network life time and relaying information in partitioned networks. As the data generation rates of sensors may vary, some sensors need to be visited more frequently than others. In this paper, a partitioning-based algorithm is presented that schedules the movements of MEs in a sensor network such that there is no data loss due to buffer overflow. Simulation results show that the proposed Partitioning Based Scheduling (PBS) algorithm performs well in terms of reducing the minimum required ME speed to prevent data loss, providing high predictability in inter-visit durations, and minimizing the data loss rate for the cases when the ME is constrained to move slower than the minimum required ME speed.

TL;DR: Two types of traffic status-estimation algorithms, i.e., the link-based and the vehicle-based, are introduced and analyzed and the results show that estimations of the traffic status based on imperfect data are reasonably accurate.
Abstract: Vehicle-based sensors can be used for traffic monitoring. These sensors are usually set with long sampling intervals to save communication costs and to avoid network congestion. In this paper, we are interested in understanding the traffic-monitoring performance that we can expect from such vehicle-based mobile sensor networks, despite the incomplete information provided. This is a fundamental problem to be addressed. A performance evaluation has been carried out in Shanghai, China, by utilizing the vehicle-based sensors installed in about 4000 taxies. Two types of traffic status-estimation algorithms, i.e., the link-based and the vehicle-based, are introduced and analyzed. The results show that estimations of the traffic status based on these imperfect data are reasonably accurate. Therefore, the feasibility of such an application is demonstrated.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system, method and apparatus for activating and deactivating features in a mobile telecommunications system based upon the position of a mobile station is presented, which is periodically determined and compared with stored coordinates for a specific location.
Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for activating and deactivating features in a mobile telecommunications system based upon the position of a mobile station. An accurate position of the mobile station is periodically determined and compared with stored coordinates for a specific location. Depending upon the outcome of this comparison, selected features are automatically activated or deactivated.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cellular data communication interfacing apparatus, for association with a mobile network and for supporting cellular data communications to roaming mobile telephony devices, comprises a data request analyzer, a service network selector, and an interfacing engine.
Abstract: A cellular data communication interfacing apparatus, for association with a mobile network and for supporting cellular data communication to roaming mobile telephony devices, comprises a data request analyzer, a service network selector, and an interfacing engine. Each of the roaming telephony devices is associated with a respective home network and a service profile specifying service networks providing data services to the device. The data request analyzer analyzes data requests from the roaming mobile. The service network selector uses the request analyses together with the device service profiles to select a corresponding service network. The interfacing engine introduces the devices to the service networks, directs the data requests to the service networks, and directs the corresponding data responses from the service networks to the requesting roaming mobile devices.
