TL;DR: The design of a prototype integrated mobile telemedicine system that is compatible with existing mobile telecommunications networks and upgradable for use with third-generation networks is described.
Abstract: This paper describes the design of a prototype integrated mobile telemedicine system that is compatible with existing mobile telecommunications networks and upgradable for use with third-generation networks. The system, when fully developed, will enable a doctor to monitor remotely a patient who is free to move around for sports medicine and for emergency situations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and a method are described which provide an originating telecommunications unit with the geographic location of a mobile telecommunications unit without actually placing a call to, or receiving a call from, the mobile unit (20).
Abstract: A system and a method are described herein which provide an originating telecommunications unit (28) with the geographic location of a mobile telecommunications unit (20) without actually placing a call to, or receiving a call from, the mobile unit (20). The originating unit (28) provides a service platform (24) with an authorization code and the telephone number, or other identification, of the mobile unit (20) to be located. The service platform (24) then initiates a location program which uses various geographic location methods to provide the originating unit (28) with the location of the mobile unit (20), without the user of the mobile unit (20) becoming aware that the location of the mobile unit (20) is being determined.

TL;DR: This paper considers skyline querying in a mobile and distributed setting, where each mobile device is capable of holding only a portion of the whole dataset; where devices communicate through mobile ad hoc networks.
Abstract: Skyline queries are well suited when retrieving data according to multiple criteria. While most previous work has assumed a centralized setting this paper considers skyline querying in a mobile and distributed setting, where each mobile device is capable of holding only a portion of the whole dataset; where devices communicate through mobile ad hoc networks; and where a query issued by a mobile user is interested only in the user’s local area, although a query generally involves data stored on many mobile devices due to the storage limitations. We present techniques that aim to reduce the costs of communication among mobile devices and reduce the execution time on each single mobile device. For the former, skyline query requests are forwarded among mobile devices in a deliberate way, such that the amount of data to be transferred is reduced. For the latter, specific optimization measures are proposed for resource-constrained mobile devices. We conduct extensive experiments to show that our proposal performs efficiently in real mobile devices and simulated wireless ad hoc networks.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a communication management system for managing communications associated with a mobile communication device, which uses context information, optionally in combination with communication device profiles, to determine how to manage incoming and/or ongoing calls or other communication sessions.
Abstract: Systems, methods and interfaces are disclosed for managing communications associated with a mobile communication device. Mobile communication devices process environmental inputs and transmit mobile communication device context information to a communication management system. The context information may, for example, reflect the motion and/or geographic location of the mobile device, and may reflect the risk associated with using the device to handle a call or other communications session. The communication management system uses the context information, optionally in combination with communication device profiles, to determine how to manage incoming and/or ongoing calls or other communication sessions. Mobile device users may also be inhibited from initiating communication sessions.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for analyzing sensor data output from a mobile communications appliance to adjust insurance premiums for consumers includes an Internet-connected server; and software executing on the server from a non-transitory physical medium, the software providing a first function for collecting raw data from the mobile communication appliance, a second function for analyzing the raw data in light of results of previous data analyses, and a third function for adjusting a standing insurance premium rate associated with the mobile communications appliances.
