TL;DR: In this article, a new type of mode converter using a tapered hollow silica optical fiber is proposed and experimentally demonstrated and three segments of single mode, hollow, and multimode fibers were concatenated serially to convert the fundamental LP 0 1 mode to TE 0 1, TM 0 1 and LP 0 2 modes.
Abstract: A new type of mode converter using a tapered hollow silica optical fiber is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Three segments of single mode, hollow, and multimode fibers were concatenated serially to convert the fundamental mode to a ring shape mode. The proposed scheme could be applied to convert the fundamental LP 0 1 mode to TE 0 1 , TM 0 1 and LP 0 2 modes. Evolution of mode filed along the taper and the insertion loss were measured.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a design for broadband waveguide mode conversion based on gradient index metamaterials (GIMs), which achieved asymmetric propagation by integrating zero-index metammaterials inside the GIM waveguide.
Abstract: We propose a design for broadband waveguide mode conversion based on gradient index metamaterials (GIMs). Numerical simulations demonstrate that the zeroth order of transverse magnetic mode or the first order of transverse electric mode (TM0/TE1) can be converted into the first order of transverse magnetic mode or the second order of transverse electric mode (TM1/TE2) for a broadband of frequencies. As an application, an asymmetric propagation is achieved by integrating zero index metamaterials inside the GIM waveguide.

TL;DR: In this article , a programmable high-order mode control method that can be implemented in high-power fiber lasers is presented. And the mode patterns are stable and dynamically switchable, which is expected to possess good application value in optical tweezers, fiber communication, laser material processing and other research fields.
Abstract: We demonstrate a programmable high-order mode control method that can be implemented in high-power fiber lasers. 2 W average-power mode-locked pulses are obtained based on a mode-locked fiber laser working in dissipative soliton resonance regime. The fundamental mode (LP01) is fully or partially converted to the high-order modes (LP11a/b) via an acoustically-induced fiber grating. The mode-superposition fields are recorded using an optical 4f system, and mode components are subsequently analyzed by a mode decomposition algorithm. Our experiments suggest that the mode patterns are stable and dynamically switchable. The method is expected to possess good application value in optical tweezers, fiber communication, laser material processing and other research fields.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple technique for measuring higher-order mode losses based on the length dependence of the cutoff wavelength is proposed, which is successfully estimated by using a few mode fiber.
Abstract: We propose a simple technique for measuring higher-order mode losses based on the length dependence of the cutoff wavelength. Higher-order mode losses of the few mode fiber are successfully estimated by present technique.
