Showing papers on "Model order reduction published in 1987"

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of model order reduction on free-free truss structures were investigated for a two-dimensional truss structure and the results were presented for a 2D truss.
Abstract: Vibration control as applied to large space structures is the subject or this study. A number of computational issues have to be resolved before integrating the disciplines of optimal structural design and modern control theory. Control of free-free structures and the effects of model order reduction are the two issues addressed in this paper. Results are presented for a two dimensional truss structure.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the model order reduction problem is closely tied to the simultaneous stabilization problem and conclude that the approximate inclusion of any unstable real modes of the high-order plant in the low-order model will guarantee the existence of such a controller.
Abstract: This note points out the fact that, under certain conditions, the model order reduction problem is very closely tied to the simultaneous stabilization problem. These conditions occur when the reduced order model is to be used to design a suboptimal controller for a high-order plant. Under these conditions the controller must not only stabilize the low-order model, but must also stabilize the high-order plant. The result concerning the existence of a controller that will simultaneously stabilize two plants is used to conclude that the approximate inclusion of any unstable real modes of the high-order plant in the low-order model will guarantee the existence of such a controller.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simulation study is described which was carried out in connection with the design of a new hydro-power plant, where low-order transfer function models were used to design a robust governor applying the root-locus method.
