TL;DR: In this article, a light beam is periodically chopped and then converted to a plane of light by a cylindrical lens, which is caused to scan an object in the direction normal to the plane of the light to form a grating pattern on the object.
Abstract: A light beam is periodically chopped and then converted to a plane of light by a cylindrical lens. As the plane of light is chopped, it is caused to scan an object in the direction normal to the plane of the light to form a grating pattern on the object. The image of the grating formed on the object is superposed with a standard grating to obtain a moire pattern which represents the moire contour lines of the object.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to reduce moire irrespective of repeated patterns such as patterns and halftone dots, which can reliably reduce the amount of moire generated by repeated patterns.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moire reduction device and program that can reliably reduce moire irrespective of the period of repeated patterns such as patterns and halftone dots. SOLUTION: The moire reduction device comprises image capturing means for capturing an image to be processed comprising a plurality of pixel data 20, and moving means for moving the positions of the plurality of pixel data 20 in the image randomly in pixel data units in areas about the respective pixel data. 27 Apr 2015TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored two specific methodologies, namely, spatial domain filtering and frequency domain filtering, to enhance the quality of the original image and to retrieve the original images.
Abstract: When images are captured, scanned and transferred, a considerable amount of noise is added that corrupts the details present in the image. This noise that creeps into images can be from a variety of sources. It is imperative that filtering techniques are employed to enhance the quality of such images and in order to retrieve the original image. This can be done in two specific methodologies — spatial domain filtering and frequency domain filtering. Frequency domain filtering of images is extensively explored in this paper. Dual and notch filters work on centralized specific noise frequencies. The output from these filters is compared to the result obtained by using the mask technique, which involves manual masking of noise clusters present in the magnitude spectrum obtained by applying Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The method of multiplying the mask (which can be any polygon) with the magnitude spectrum yields good results and the moire patterns present in the image are eliminated. The removal of said moire patterns has important applications in the role of image enhancement.
