Abstract: Three-dimensional (3D) deformation distribution measurement is of great interest in applications of materials evaluation. In this study, we propose a stereo sampling moiré method for full-field 3D deformation measurement based on a stereomicroscope. From the phase analysis on the left and right image planes as well as the relationship between displacements in the world and image coordinate systems, the 3D displacements and the in-plane strains of the specimen can be acquired. We also propose a method to calibrate the microscope convergence angle using the grid pitch variation. The validation experiment shows that the difference between the out-of-plane displacement measured by the proposed method and the movement of the sample stage is less than 0.2 µm. The microscopic 3D displacements and the in-plane strain distributions of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic specimen in a three-point bending test are investigated.

Abstract: This paper explains the Moire chromatography technique and the optical characteristics when the light crosses the 3D air flow field. Based on this, taking grating, CCD camera, optical filter and diaphragm as the main device, a multi-direction Moire chromatography optical system was designed. The system consists of five detective light paths, in each detective light path there is parallel and same periodic grating and filtering minipore placed on the lens' focal length plane; the grating is used to adjust the space length and angle between the two gratings, and the filtering minipore is used to remove the unorderly high frequency intermix in the Moire fringe. Utilizing the computer escalator method to convert the tested value, the vivid interference fringe of tested parameter can be obtained. The application of this system in precision measurement and medicine is also analyzed and discussed.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for reducing an amount of moire pattern exhibited by an image having a halftone pattern. Regions of the image including the halftone pattern may be identified and selectively blurred to reduce the amount of moire pattern visible to a user. The halftone pattern may be detected using digital wavelets to identify high frequency patterns in the image. The halftone pattern may be blurred using a convolution matrix having a weighted average, and a transition band may be used to reduce an intensity of the blur near the edges of the halftone pattern.

Abstract: A halftone image processing method of security based on moire effect is developed in this paper. On the theoretical basis of moire effect and information hiding in halftone images, some images and text information are hidden in the pre-copy color images, and then the images are output by means of laser printers and traditional printing proof. The experimental results show that when the specific detecting film is in the right angle and position, the hidden graphic information can be clearly observed. This security method is of better effect, lower production costs, which can be widely used in packaging security printing.

Abstract: This paper reviews significant advances in fringe carrier techniques developed by the authors for acquiring derivative patterns of deformation and for automatic order determination of fringe patterns using optical and digital image processing. Various applications to many aspects of photomechanics are shown including, holographic-moire for the in-plane displacement derivative fringe patterns; speckle-shearing interferometry for the curvature patterns of bending plate and for the separated in-plane strain patterns; moire interferometry of real-time recordings for 3D displacement derivatives and phase-stepping technique based on the scanning of the fringe carrier for the phase demodulation; and the automatic order determination of the isochromatic fringes of dynamic photoelasticity and the transient fringes of geometrical moire.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
