TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigate the formation of fractal generators for twisted bilayer graphene (TBLG) subject to a sequence of commensurate external periodic potentials and uncover a remarkable connection between twistronics and the geometry of economic zones.
Abstract: Twisted bilayer graphene (TBLG) subject to a sequence of commensurate external periodic potentials reveals the formation of moir\'e fractals that share striking similarities with the central place theory (CPT) of economic geography, thus uncovering a remarkable connection between twistronics and the geometry of economic zones. The moir\'e fractals arise from the self-similarity of the hierarchy of Brillouin zones (BZ) so formed, forming a nested subband structure within the bandwidth of the original moir\'e bands. The fractal generators for TBLG under these external potentials are derived and we explore their impact on the hierarchy of the BZ edges. Furthermore, we uncover parallels between the modification of the BZ hierarchy and magnetic BZ formation in the Hofstadter butterfly, allowing us to construct an incommensurability measure for moir\'e fractals as a function of the twist angle. The resulting band structure hierarchy bolsters correlation effects, pushing more bands within the same energy window for both commensurate and incommensurate structures.

TL;DR: In this paper , a novel model called FPANet was proposed to learn filters in both frequency and spatial domains, improving the restoration quality by removing various sizes of moire patterns.
Abstract: Interference between overlapping gird patterns creates moire patterns, degrading the visual quality of an image that captures a screen of a digital display device by an ordinary digital camera. Removing such moire patterns is challenging due to their complex patterns of diverse sizes and color distortions. Existing approaches mainly focus on filtering out in the spatial domain, failing to remove a large-scale moire pattern. In this paper, we propose a novel model called FPANet that learns filters in both frequency and spatial domains, improving the restoration quality by removing various sizes of moire patterns. To further enhance, our model takes multiple consecutive frames, learning to extract frame-invariant content features and outputting better quality temporally consistent images. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method with a publicly available large-scale dataset, observing that ours outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches, including ESDNet, VDmoire, MBCNN, WDNet, UNet, and DMCNN, in terms of the image and video quality metrics, such as PSNR, SSIM, LPIPS, FVD, and FSIM.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of both inclined grating planes in Talbot interferometry illuminated by a plane wave were studied, and it was shown that the tilt-angle of the moire fringes is sensitive to the inclination.
Abstract: A more actual situation is studied on the effects of both inclined grating planes in Talbot interferometry illuminated by a plane wave. In the situation, the two grating planes are first rotated around their own axis parallel to the line direction, and then detector grating is rotated by an angle around the normal of the grating plane. Theoretical analyses indicate that the tilt-angle of the moire fringes is sensitive to the inclination. The results in this paper are also compared with those in one of our earlier works.
