13 Jan 2011TL;DR: In this article, the authors described the identification and accumulation of preferred nucleic acid sequences in the germplasm of a breeding population of plants, and provided breeding methods and compositions to enhance the gene pool of a plant.
Abstract: The present invention provides breeding methods and compositions to enhance the germplasm of a plant by the use of direct nucleic acid sequence information. The methods describe the identification and accumulation of preferred nucleic acid sequences in the germplasm of a breeding population of plants.

TL;DR: In this paper, an SNP functional molecular marker was used for predicting the lodging resistance of a japonica subspecies material of rice in an early stage (seedling stage or embryonic stage).
Abstract: The invention discloses an SNP functional molecular marker of a lodging-resistant gene of japonica rice and application of the marker. The lodging-resistant gene is SCM2; the SNP functional molecular marker is K_06g_SCM2-1 and is positioned at the 27481645th basic group of the No. 6 chromosome of rice; the polymorphism of the SNP molecular marker is T/G; the sequence of the marker is shown in SEQ ID No.1; the base group at the 55bp site is T or G and is positioned in a promoter region of the gene SCM2. The SNP functional molecular marker disclosed by the invention can be used for predicting the lodging resistance of a japonica subspecies material of rice in an early stage (seedling stage or embryonic stage), and can be used for performing accurate screening, thereby promoting genetic improvement and breeding of lodging resistance traits of the japonica rice. According to the invention, a KASP method is adopted to detect an SNP site, and the detection method is accurate and reliable, easy and convenient to operate, and suitable for application in high-throughput commercialized molecular breeding.

01 Jan 2001TL;DR: Molecular breeding of wheat in the sense of genetic engineering will be the subject of this paper and actual strategies for engineering fungal resistance in crops will be reviewed.
Abstract: Molecular breeding of wheat in the sense of genetic engineering will be the subject of this paper It will review actual strategies for engineering fungal resistance in crops An efficient method for genetic transformation of wheat like the biolistic method using immature embryos as target tissue — together with genes that directly or indirectly inhibit the pathogen’s spread — form the basis for the development of transgenic wheat plants with improved fungal resistance

TL;DR: Transgenic strategy using both blast resistance development genes and foreign genes, and molecular marker assisted selection to improve blast resistance were presented.
Abstract: Blast is one of the most devastating rice disease. In the present review,in addition to use conventional breeding method, molecular breeding strategy is also extensively used to improve rice resistance to blast in the world. Now transgenic strategy using both blast resistance development genes and foreign genes, and molecular marker assisted selection to improve blast resistance were presented. Some breeding strategies to improve blast resistance are suggested based on present status of breeding.
