TL;DR: Some performance requirements typical of successful DMTI radar modes and systems are discussed, requiring different specifications for performance and hardware quality.
Abstract: In recent years, a new class of Moving Target Indicator (MTI) radars has emerged, namely those whose mission included detecting moving people, or “dismounts.” This new mode is frequently termed Dismount-MTI, or DMTI. Obviously, detecting people is a harder problem than detecting moving vehicles, necessitating different specifications for performance and hardware quality. Herein we discuss some performance requirements typical of successful DMTI radar modes and systems.

TL;DR: A subspace-based clutter rejection method is proposed to cancel the stationary ground clutter in addition to clutter up to higher Doppler frequencies and it is shown how the proposed clutter cancellation method is important for the high data rate reduction case of undersampling.
Abstract: This study investigates moving target indication (MTI) and velocity estimation for the single-channel synthetic aperture radar system. A four-dimensional grid is employed for location and velocity representation of any moving targets. Clutter terms spread among all location grid cells and a small number of velocity grid cells corresponding to small velocities. Since in practical situations, clutter spectra have a certain widening in frequency, it is favourable to cancel an arbitrarily chosen number of clutter bins about zero Doppler. In this study, a subspace-based clutter rejection method is proposed to cancel the stationary ground clutter in addition to clutter up to higher Doppler frequencies. That is, after suppressing the clutter successfully, the ground MTI problem becomes sparse and a compressive sensing reconstruction algorithm is applied to solve for the location and velocity of the moving target. To reduce the amount of data storage and computational load, some undersampling schemes are done based on the ability of compressive sensing to solve the underdetermined set of equations. Finally, it is shown how the proposed clutter cancellation method is important for the high data rate reduction case of undersampling.

TL;DR: In this article, a method based on complex variational mode decomposition (CVMD) is proposed to suppress the strong clutter component and separate the effective fretting component from narrow-band radar echo.
Abstract: In order to suppress the strong clutter component and separate the effective fretting component from narrow-band radar echo, a method based on complex variational mode decomposition (CVMD) is proposed in this paper. The CVMD is extended from variational mode decomposition (VMD), which is a recently introduced technique for adaptive signal decomposition, limited to only dealing with the real signal. Thus, the VMD is extended from the real domain to the complex domain firstly. Then, the optimal effective order of singular value is obtained by singular value decomposition (SVD) to solve the problem of under-decomposition or over-decomposition caused by unreasonable choice of decomposition layer, it is more accurate than detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and empirical mode decomposition (EMD). Finally, the strongly correlated modes and weakly correlated modes are judged by calculating the Mahalanobis distance between the band-limited intrinsic mode functions (BLIMFs) and the original signal, which is more robust than the correlation judgment methods such as computing cross-correlation, Euclidean distance, Bhattachryya distance and Hausdorff distance. After the weak correlation modes are eliminated, the signal is reconstructed locally, and the separation of the micro-motion signal is realized. The experimental results show that the proposed method can filter out the strong clutter component and the fuselage component from radar echo more effectively than the local mean decomposition (LMD), empirical mode decomposition and moving target indicator (MTI) filter.

Abstract: Spaceborne sparse array radar for ground moving targets indication (GMTI) has outstanding advantage over full array radar for constructing ultra-large aperture. Rapid development of millimeter wave (MMW) technology make it possible for realizing MMW GMTI radar, which is much more sensitive to slow moving ground target. The paper presented the system model of a multi-carrier frequency sparse array MMW radar as well as preliminary simulation results, which showed future application of the system is very promising.

Abstract: Moving target indication unit provided with a doppler filter bank (1) with n output channels Ai (i = 0, 1, 2, ..., n-1), several threshold circuits (24.i) connected to the output channels, a detection and registration unit (7, 14, 18, 23) provided with means (7, 14, 18) for the determination and registration, per azimuth cell, of a parameter for the amount: of clutter in an azimuth cell. The said means are further suitable for determining, based on the output signals of the filter bank (1), k (k ? 2) parameters per azimuth cell and processing per azimuth cell the combination of k parameters to obtain n threshold values, used to set the n threshold circuits.
