TL;DR: The main task of the proposed distributed KF is to compensate for the information loss due to the multi-rate nature of the systems by providing optimal estimation of the missing information.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel distributed Kalman filter (KF) algorithm along with a distributed model predictive control (MPC) scheme for large-scale multi-rate systems is proposed. The decomposed multi-rate system consists of smaller subsystems with linear dynamics that are coupled via states. These subsystems are multi-rate systems in the sense that either output measurements or input updates are not available at certain sampling times. Such systems can arise, e.g., when the number of sensors is smaller than the number of variables to be controlled, or when measurements of outputs cannot be completed simultaneously because of practical limitations. The multi-rate nature gives rise to lack of information, which will cause uncertainty in the system's performance. To circumvent this problem, we propose a distributed KF-based MPC scheme, in which multiple control and estimation agents each determine actions for their own parts of the system. Via communication, the agents can in a cooperative way take one another's actions into account. The main task of the proposed distributed KF is to compensate for the information loss due to the multi-rate nature of the systems by providing optimal estimation of the missing information. A demanding two-area power network example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

TL;DR: This paper aims to implement a highly distributed information infrastructure-MADIP by using Intelligent Agent paradigm, which is able to notify the responsible care-provider of abnormality automatically, offer distance medical advice, and perform continuous health monitoring for those who need it.
Abstract: In this paper we aim to implement a highly distributed information infrastructure-MADIP by using Intelligent Agent paradigm, which is able to notify the responsible care-provider of abnormality automatically, offer distance medical advice, and perform continuous health monitoring for those who need it. To confront the issues of interoperability, scalability, and openness in heterogeneous e-health environments, a FIPA2000 standard compliant agent development platform-JADE (Java Agent DEvelopment Framework) was adopted for the design and implementation of the proposed intelligent multi-agent based MADIP system.

TL;DR: This paper categorizes target tracking systems based on characteristics of scenes, tasks, and system architectures, and presents a real-time cooperative multitarget tracking system that can track multiple moving objects persistently even under complicated dynamic environments in the real world.
Abstract: Target detection and tracking is one of the most important and fundamental technologies to develop real-world computer vision systems such as security and traffic monitoring systems. This paper first categorizes target tracking systems based on characteristics of scenes, tasks, and system architectures. Then we present a real-time cooperative multitarget tracking system. The system consists of a group of active vision agents (AVAs), where an AVA is a logical model of a network-connected computer with an active camera. All AVAs cooperatively track their target objects by dynamically exchanging object information with each other With this cooperative tracking capability, the system as a whole can track multiple moving objects persistently even under complicated dynamic environments in the real world. In this paper we address the technologies employed in the system and demonstrate their effectiveness.

TL;DR: A generic architecture for an emotional agent, EBDI, is presented, which can merge various emotion theories with an agent's reasoning process and implements practical reasoning techniques separately from the specific emotion mechanism.
Abstract: Most of the research on multiagent systems has focused on the development of rational utility-maximizing agents. However, research shows that emotions have a strong effect on peoples' physical states, motivations, beliefs, and desires. By introducing primary and secondary emotion into BDI architecture, we present a generic architecture for an emotional agent, EBDI, which can merge various emotion theories with an agent's reasoning process. It implements practical reasoning techniques separately from the specific emotion mechanism. The separation allows us to plug in emotional models as needed or upgrade the agent's reasoning engine independently.
