TL;DR: This paper investigates transmit/receive beamforming transmission only based on the specular component and treats the scattered component as interference to reduce the overhead for estimating channel state information (CSI).
Abstract: This paper is concerned with massive MIMO systems over Ricean fading channels. To reduce the overhead for estimating channel state information (CSI), we investigate transmit/receive beamforming transmission only based on the specular component and treat the scattered component as interference. For the scenario without co-channel interference, we show that the ergodic achievable rate can remain unchanged when the transmit power is scaled down by the multiplication of the two numbers of antennas at the transmitter and the receiver, and can be equal to that of the corresponding beamforming based on perfect CSI when both of the numbers of antennas go without bound. Theoretical analysis is also extended to the scenario with co-channel interference. Simulation results further show that even though the numbers of antennas are not very large, the exact rate is quite close to its limit.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for transmitting uplink signals through a terminal in the wireless communication system comprises the steps of: receiving control information including the information on a cyclic shift, multiplexing the reference signals for uplink MIMO transmission by using the cyclic shifts and/or an orthogonal cover code, and allocating the multiplexed reference signals onto a uplink sub-frame; and transmitting the subframe through a multi-antenna.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wireless communication system, and more particularly to a method and an apparatus for transmitting reference signals in uplink MIMO transmission. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method for transmitting uplink signals through a terminal in the wireless communication system comprises the steps of: receiving control information including the information on a cyclic shift; multiplexing the reference signals for uplink MIMO transmission by using the cyclic shift and/or an orthogonal cover code; allocating the multiplexed reference signals onto a uplink sub-frame; and transmitting the sub-frame through a multi-antenna. When the uplink MIMO transmission is multiuser MIMO transmission, the reference signals of the terminal and the reference signals of other terminals can be multiplexed by using the orthogonal cover code.

TL;DR: It is shown that turbulence effects can be mitigated by exploiting spatial diversity and MIMO equalization and the performance of a multi-input-multiple-output (MIMO) free-space optical link employing orbital-angular-momentum multiplexing through turbulent channel is demonstrated.
Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate and investigate the performance of a multi-input-multiple-output (MIMO) free-space optical link employing orbital-angular-momentum multiplexing through turbulent channel. We show that turbulence effects can be mitigated by exploiting spatial diversity and MIMO equalization.

TL;DR: A novel double codebook design method based on a Kronecker-type approximation of the array correlation structure for the uniform rectangular array, which is preferable for the antenna deployment of massive MIMO systems is proposed.
Abstract: Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) is an emerging research field due to the increasing demand of spectral efficiency in wireless broadband systems, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) which is proposed by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project). Precoding is important to exploit the performance of massive MIMO, and codebook design is crucial due to the limited feedback channel. In this paper, we propose a novel double codebook design method based on a Kronecker-type approximation of the array correlation structure for the uniform rectangular array, which is preferable for the antenna deployment of massive MIMO systems. As a case study, we run simulations based on assumptions of the LTE-Advanced system which is extended to 32 dual-polarized antennas. The results verify that the proposed codebook design has remarkable performance gain compared to the traditional double codebook under the uniform rectangular array setup.

TL;DR: In this work, the implications of multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO) are explored, highlighting fundamental differences and new phenomena.
Abstract: The topological interference management problem refers to the study of the DoF of partially connected wireless communication networks with no channel state information at the transmitters (no CSIT) beyond the network topology, i.e., a knowledge of which channel coefficients are non-zero. While the problem is originally studied with single input sources and single output destinations (SISO), in this work we explore the implications of multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO), highlighting fundamental differences and new phenomena.
