TL;DR: This report describes the development of software for the generation of hypermedia (Web) applications for the results of ad-hoc queries to multimedia databases using a heuristic algorithm for generating navigation structures for multimedia database output and an extension to the query language to allow users to explicitly override the heuristics.
Abstract: This report describes the development of software for the generation of hypermedia (Web) applications for the results of ad-hoc queries to multimedia databases. In [Houben & De Bra 1997] we have proposed a heuristic algorithm for generating navigation structures for multimedia database output, based on ideas from RMM [see Isakowitz et aJ. 1995]. We have shown that only part of the RMM design methodology can be automated deterministically, and we have provided relevant heuristics and an extension to the query language to allow users to explicitly override the heuristics. In [Houben & De Bra 1999] we have further developed this approach by describing the design of a system for automatic generation of presentations for multimedia database output. In that system hypermedia applications (including both navigation and presentation aspects) are automatical\y generated combining heuristics from [Houben & De Bra 1997] and explicit directives from the user. This approach is similar to the one used in the DHymE project from [Bieber 1998]. In this report we focus on the architecture of our sotiware, called HERA, that generates hypermedia (Web) applications for legacy data from relational databases.

TL;DR: The development process and information visualization facilities in Envision search results and browsing displays are described and the concepts underlying these windows are extended to a Graphical Browser for the full database and for hierarchical structures.
Abstract: Project Envision is a user-centered multimedia database of computer science literature. Envision features powerful information visualization by displaying search results as a matrix of icons, with layout semantics under user control. Its Graphic View interacts with Item Summary and Preview Item windows to give users access to bibliographic information and abstracts. The concepts underlying these windows are being extended to a Graphical Browser for the full database and for hierarchical structures. This paper describes the development process and information visualization facilities in Envision search results and browsing displays.

TL;DR: In this article, a multimedia player module, which comprises a player interface, an editor interface and a multimedia database, is presented. And the editor unit is used for editing the background of the player interface and multimedia data which is played by the display unit.
Abstract: The invention discloses a multimedia player module, which comprises a player interface, an editor interface and a multimedia database, wherein the player interface comprises at least one display unit and at least one control unit; and the editor unit is used for editing the background of the player interface, the quantity, size and layout position of the display unit in the player interface, and multimedia data which is played by the display unit. By adoption of the multimedia player module, various kinds of multimedia data are integrated in the player interface. Moreover, the quantity, size and layout position of the display unit and the background of the player interface can be adjusted by using the multimedia player module according to the requirements or hobbies of a content producer, so various kinds of vision effects are achieved.

TL;DR: Proposed is an improved multimedia database system, characterized by dedicated design of its user terminal and image directory, featuring the use of HDTV display for faithfully demonstrating the color of Japanese traditional Kosode garments.
Abstract: An improved multimedia database system is proposed. It consists of an image server (image servers), a directory server, and user terminals which are connected together through the Japanese gigabit networks (JGN). The image server stores high-definition still images of Japanese Kosode garments. The image directory compares the sketched image entered by the user with the index code of the index image using a new type of search engine so that the image retrieval is carried out using the sketched image. In accordance with the sample image resulting from the image retrieval, the high-definition image appears on the HDTV display corresponding to its obtained address. This accomplishment leads to merging of high-definition still images to the HDTV images on HDTV programs.
