Abstract: Multimedia technologies are being adopted both in the professional and commercial world with great enthusiasm. This has led to a significant interest in the research and development of multimedia databases. However, none of these efforts have really addressed the issues related to the benchmarking of multimedia databases. We analyze the problem of benchmarking multimedia databases in this paper and suggest a methodology.

Abstract: A multimedia search apparatus and method for searching multimedia content using speaker detection to segment the multimedia content. The multimedia search apparatus receives a search request from a user device. The search request identifies the target speaker for which the search is to be conducted. Based on the search request, the multimedia search apparatus retrieves multimedia content from a multimedia database. The multimedia search apparatus retrieves models, such as Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs), from a model storage device, corresponding to the target speaker and background data. Based on the retrieved models, the multimedia search device searches the multimedia data of the multimedia content and segments the multimedia data. The segments are identified by calculating an average normalized score for a block of frames of the multimedia data and determining if the average normalized score for the block of frames exceeds one or more predetermined thresholds.

Abstract: Techniques for intelligent and automatic control of sensors for capturing data associated with real time events. Preferably, the sensors are associated with a multimedia database system. For example, a technique for controlling one or more sensors used to capture data associated with an event comprises the following steps/operations. First, sensor data captured in accordance with the event is processed. Then, the one or more sensors are automatically controlled based on information pertaining to the continual activity of at least one of one or more objects and one or more persons associated with the event in real time obtained using at least a portion of the processed data captured in accordance with the event.

Abstract: A method, client and server are directed at providing a simplified scheme for delivering multimedia messages from mobile to mobile via wireless networks and internet. The multimedia can be either resident on mobile devices or stored in a multimedia database on a server. The present invention provides a server that receives and stores uploaded multimedia; generates a unique id and a link for accessing the multimedia message; collects mobile device info from request; converts the multimedia message to formats and dimensions supported by the mobile device; delivers the multimedia message to mobile devices. The present invention also provides a mobile client application that can capture or locate multimedia content on mobile device; upload multimedia messages; formulate and send notification message with an embedded link to other mobile devices via mobile network.
