11 Jul 2005TL;DR: The Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with AUTh's Department of History and Archaeology in the framework of the SOCRATES-MINERVA SEEArch Web project has developed a system for recording multiple excavations driven by GIS services, based on a flexible multimedia database.
Abstract: Considering the problems in archaeological data recording and analysis, the Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in collaboration with AUTh's Department of History and Archaeology in the framework of the SOCRATES-MINERVA SEEArch Web project has developed a system for recording multiple excavations driven by GIS services, based on a flexible multimedia database. The system provides all its services over the Internet. Its innovation lies in the fact that it is promoting a generic template supporting data from different excavations while older implementations were custom made for the specific method implemented in each excavation. Emphasis is also given to the development of instructional models organizing the existing educational resources of the system.

01 Jan 1990TL;DR: Object-oriented Database Management Systems (ooDBMS) gain a lot of attention in the database research area, because they offer much promising facilities to support non-standard database applications like CAD/CAM, office automation, multimedia databases or data-intensive knowledge bases.
Abstract: Object-oriented Database Management Systems (ooDBMS) gain a lot of attention in the database research area, because they offer much promising facilities to support non-standard database applications like CAD/CAM, office automation, multimedia databases or data-intensive knowledge bases. Conventional database technology (i.e., relational or network) is not well-suited in these fields, because of their poor structural and behavioral modeling capabilities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a multimedia synchronous device and a multimedia synchronization method, wherein the device is connected with a network and consists of a sense module, a comparison module and a synchronization module.
Abstract: The invention provides a multimedia synchronous device and a multimedia synchronous method, wherein, the device is connected with a network and consists of a sense module, a comparison module, a synchronization module, a memory and a multimedia database with the device, the method includes the following steps: the sense module automatically senses whether synchronized equipment exists in the network; when the sense module senses synchronized equipment, the comparison module compares the media indexes of local or allopatry multimedia materials and determines the multimedia materials as the synchronized multimedia materials which are dissimilar with the media indexes of the local multimedia materials in the media indexes of the allopatry multimedia materials; the synchronization module downloads the synchronized multimedia to be transmitted to the memory; the memory stores the synchronized multimedia materials and inputs the media index of the synchronized multimedia materials to the multimedia database Through the automatic backup of the multimedia materials, users can use all the multimedia materials in the network conveniently

08 Sep 2014TL;DR: The overall architecture of a system aiming at providing the user with the possibility to store audio recordings, text transcripts, and other annotations and the possibilities and limitations of a retrieval module aiming at combining different linguistic levels for a unified exploitation of oral and written corpora are described.
Abstract: In this paper, we deal with the problem of storing and retrieving dialectal data in a unified framework. In particular, we discuss issues concerning the design and implementation of a multimedia database which will contain written and oral data from three Greek dialects in Asia Minor. At first, we describe the overall architecture of a system aiming at providing the user with the possibility to store audio recordings, text transcripts, and other annotations. Then we discuss the possibilities and limitations of a retrieval module aiming at combining different linguistic levels for a unified exploitation of oral and written corpora.
