01 Jan 2002TL;DR: This paper presents a conceptual modelling methodology and diagramming notation for designing multimedia databases that permits the modelling of the semantic role and technical requirements of the media artefacts in the multimedia database in parallel with the data component.
Abstract: This paper presents a conceptual modelling methodology and diagramming notation for designing multimedia databases. Entity-media modelling (EMM) ensures that all information contained in a media artefact — technical properties, semantic content, and context of use - is modelled early in the design process and preserved through to implementation. The key construct in the modelling process is the media entity, used to denote both the physical media artefacts and the roles they play within the database. The media entity is represented schematically in the ERD+, a notation based on the entity-relationship diagram (ERD). The use of the media entity and the ERD+ permits the modelling of the semantic role and technical requirements of the media artefacts in the multimedia database in parallel with the data component. The completed ERD+ translates into a conventional ERD for implementation in the preferred database system.

17 Jun 1996TL;DR: This work proposes multimedia applications using distributed shared virtual memory, and introduces stream heap for time- based media, and global heap for non time-based media.
Abstract: INADA is a new database programming language under development at Kyushu University. INADA can create and manipulate C++ objects stored in a database (persistent object). The key idea of INADA is the introduction of distributed shared virtual memory. We propose multimedia applications using distributed shared virtual memory. We introduce stream heap for time-based media, and global heap for non time-based media. To test our idea we implemented two prototype multimedia applications, white board and telephone using INADA.

TL;DR: In this article, a data attribute embedding processing part embeds the data attribute or an updation condition into multimedia data through a digital watermark technique, and an embedded data detection processing part automatically detects the data attributes or the updation conditions from the multimedia data.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load of registration and updation work of a multimedia database and simultaneously to quicken those work by utilizing a digital watermark technique. SOLUTION: A data attribute embedding processing part embeds the data attribute or an updation condition into multimedia data through a digital watermark technique, and an embedded data detection processing part automatically detects the data attribute or the updation condition from the multimedia data, stores the multimedia data in a real data storage region by transferring the multimedia data to a real data registration/updation processing part, attaches the storage place to the data attribute or the updation condition, transfers the data attribute and the updation condition to an index data registration/ updation processing part and performs registration/updation processing of the index data storage region.

TL;DR: A compressed B+-tree based framework is proposed to only support the visual content of multimedia data indexing and querying of spatio-temporal relationships of mobile objects in a multimedia database system.
Abstract: The object-level indexing of mobile data that supports spatio-temporal querying is presented. The indexing scheme focuses on handling linear trajectories of moving objects. In this paper, a compressed B+-tree based framework is proposed to only support the visual content of multimedia data indexing and querying of spatio-temporal relationships of mobile objects in a multimedia database system. A prototype of the proposed model has been implemented.
