TL;DR: A prototype document warehouse system is described, which supports management of simple and compound documents, keyword-based and content-based retrieval, rule-based classification, SOM-based clustering, and XML data query and view rules.
Abstract: Nowadays, structured data such as sales and business forms are stored in data warehouses for decision makers to use. Further, unstructured data such as emails, HTML texts, images, videos, and office documents are increasingly accumulated in personal computer storage due to spread of mailing, WWW, and word processing. Such unstructured data, or what we call multimedia documents, are larger in volume than structured data and precious as corporate assets as well. So we need a document warehouse as a software framework where multimedia documents are analyzed and managed for corporate-wide information sharing and reuse like a data warehouse for structured data. We describe a prototype document warehouse system, which supports management of simple and compound documents, keyword-based and content-based retrieval, rule-based classification, SOM-based clustering, and XML data query and view rules.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a multimedia recommendation method which is applied to a server to bring convenience to the server for recommending multimedia to a client side, where the server is provided with a multimedia database which is used for storing multimedia and geographic information related to the multimedia.
Abstract: The invention provides a multimedia recommendation method which is applied to a server to bring convenience to the server for recommending multimedia to a client side. The server is provided with a multimedia database which is used for storing multimedia and geographic information related to the multimedia. The multimedia recommendation method comprises the steps that the server receives geographical location information sent by the client side; the server searches the multimedia database for the multimedia with the geographical location information matched with the geographical location information sent by the client side according to the geographical location information sent by the client side; the server sends the found multimedia with the geographical location information matched with the geographical location information sent by the client side to the client side, so that a client side user can play the multimedia at the geographic position of the user. The invention further provides the server and client side corresponding to the multimedia recommendation method.

TL;DR: This paper proposes POQL as a general purpose query language for an object oriented multimedia database, which supports the combination of text retrieval, content-based retrieval for other media types and traditional fact retrieval on structured multimedia documents.
Abstract: An important research issue with multimedia databases is the formulation of queries to the database. Here the search for structured multimedia documents or relevant parts of it gains more and more significance. Unfortunately text retrieval on its own is not sufficient for the realization of capable search services in this respect. Therefore, an efficient combination of automatic text retrieval, retrieval in meta data and content based retrieval on structured multimedia documents is needed. In the present paper we propose POQL as a general purpose query language for an object oriented multimedia database, which supports the combination of text retrieval, content-based retrieval for other media types and traditional fact retrieval on structured multimedia documents. To this end, we describe the significant features of POQL and point out the applicability of POQL by means of some query examples.

TL;DR: In this article, a technique for generating at least one alert message may include the following steps/operations: sensor data captured by one or more sensors is processed, then, at least 1 alert message is automatically generated based on information obtained using at least a portion of the processed data and pertaining to a continual activity of one or multiple objects and/or one or different persons and to an associated previous activity of the same or different objects and or persons.
Abstract: Techniques for intelligent and automatic alert management. Such techniques may be realized in conjunction with a multimedia database system, such that interesting and important multimedia data associated with real time events may be captured, and alerts generated based on the captured data. In one aspect of the invention, a technique for generating at least one alert message may include the following steps/operations. Sensor data captured by one or more sensors is processed. Then, at least one alert message is automatically generated based on information obtained using at least a portion of the processed data and pertaining to a continual activity of one or more objects and/or one or more persons and to an associated previous activity of the same or different objects and/or persons. The at least one alert message may also be generated based on a varying degree of complexity of activity. The one or more sensors may be associated with a multimedia database system.
