TL;DR: A hybrid multimedia database system is presented, which employs a hierarchical database statistics structure for both query optimization and reformulation analysis without adding additional query processing cost.
Abstract: Since multimedia retrieval is based on similarity calculations of semantics and media-based search, exact matches are not expected. We view querying multimedia database as a combination of IR, image matching, and traditional database query processing and it should be conducted in a way of perpetual query reformulation for honing target results. In this paper we present a hybrid multimedia database system, which employs a hierarchical database statistics structure for both query optimization and reformulation analysis without adding additional query processing cost. The contribution of this work is the integration of database methodology, user interface design, IR concepts, and image matching techniques for facilitating multimedia database ex-

TL;DR: DeepStyle as mentioned in this paper proposes a multimodal search engine that combines visual and textual cues to retrieve items from a multimedia database aesthetically similar to the query by using a joint neural network architecture.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a multimodal search engine that combines visual and textual cues to retrieve items from a multimedia database aesthetically similar to the query. The goal of our engine is to enable intuitive retrieval of fashion merchandise such as clothes or furniture. Existing search engines treat textual input only as an additional source of information about the query image and do not correspond to the real-life scenario where the user looks for 'the same shirt but of denim'. Our novel method, dubbed DeepStyle, mitigates those shortcomings by using a joint neural network architecture to model contextual dependencies between features of different modalities. We prove the robustness of this approach on two different challenging datasets of fashion items and furniture where our DeepStyle engine outperforms baseline methods by 18-21% on the tested datasets. Our search engine is commercially deployed and available through a Web-based application.

TL;DR: In this paper, a dynamic display relevant information system and method in short message used in hand held data processing device is presented, which contains multimedia database having multiterm multimedia data, keyword identifying module for identifying local end long-distance short message content according to preset keyword list to generate keyword message, keyword search module for finding corresponded multimedia data from multimedia database according to keyword message.
Abstract: A dynamic display relevant information system and method in short message used in hand held data processing device. It contains multimedia database having multiterm multimedia data, keyword identifying module for identifying local end long-distance short message content according to preset keyword list to generate keyword message, keyword search module for finding corresponded multimedia data from multimedia database according to keyword message, correlation prompting module generating and displaying in hand held data processing device according to multimedia data.

01 Jan 1998TL;DR: First evaluation results of querying image databases by visual content are presented and an approach how to tackle the complex problem of exchanging multimedia documents over the internet is presented.
Abstract: The interdisciplinary HERON project investigates the impact of multimedia applications from the humanities, in particular heraldry, on future database technology. We present first evaluation results of querying image databases by visual content. Also the requirements of a digital workbench for art historians are described. Here we present an approach how to tackle the complex problem of exchanging multimedia documents over the internet.

TL;DR: This paper surveys four possible types of multimedia computer systems: hypermedia, multimedia database, multimedia message, and virtual reality systems.
Abstract: A multimedia computer system is one that can create, import, integrate, store, retrieve, edit, and delete two or more types of media materials in digital form, such as audio, image, full‐motion video, and text information. This paper surveys four possible types of multimedia computer systems: hypermedia, multimedia database, multimedia message, and virtual reality systems. The primary focus is on advanced multimedia systems development projects and theoretical efforts that suggest long‐term trends in this increasingly important area.
