Abstract: A revised, enlarged, and updated translation of the author's ricchata quellccani; pinturas murales prehispanicas (1974). The author surveys the tradition of mural painting in the central andes, from the initial period through the late horizon. Peruvian murals were executed on clay plaster, with relatively simple techniques that did not vary greatly through time, and a variety of colours. The murals are now very fragile and badly deteriorated. Appendix: pigment analysis. References.
