TL;DR: The dragon king temple in Southern Shanxi is the only known intact survivor of this ancient Water God institution once existing in every Chinese agricultural community as discussed by the authors, and its original Yuan time mural paintings enable the author to depict the ritual of praying for rain, and actual rain-making of the god.
Abstract: The 14th century dragon king temple in Southern Shanxi is the only known intact survivor of this ancient Water God institution once existing in every Chinese agricultural community. After describing the history, lay-out and mural paintings of the building, its original Yuan time mural paintings enable the author to depict the ritual of praying for rain, and the actual rain-making of the god. The meaning of the unique painting of a theatrical company is interpreted as to subject and its connections with the ritual of praying for rain. Rainmaking magic is compared with similar practices in other parts of the world (India), and thus suggests a common cosmological basis of Chinese and Indian cultures, and a common pattern of human behaviour and mode of thinking concerning human procreation and food production.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors of the "Fifth World Tales" series of children's books are shown to have drawn inspiration from the Latino communities of San Francisco, California, at the height of a flourishing community mural movement.
Abstract: Harriet Rohmer (b 1938) created an independent publishing organization, Children’s Book Press, in 1975 to challenge the whiteness of mainstream children’s literature and to give inner city children alternative narratives to foster ethnic awareness and pride The first 10 books, published between 1975 and 1978, entitled “Fifth World Tales,” became key to the non-profit’s growth into a major publisher of equitable children’s literature This article shows how these first 10 books, ostensibly built on indigenous folklore of the Americas, also drew inspiration from the Latino communities of San Francisco, California Most obviously, all 10 books featured the art of Latina and Latino muralists based in San Francisco’s Mission District, at the height of a flourishing community mural movement Few street murals survived the flux of urban change, such that these children’s books represent an alternate, physically accessible illustration of this arts community, not unlike portable murals Less obviously, it also

TL;DR: Reverse glass paintings, a form of Chinese export art, were extensively traded in the nineteenth century and several examples are on display in prominent Thai Buddhist monasteries in Bangkok as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Reverse glass paintings, a form of Chinese export art, were extensively traded in the nineteenth century. Several examples are on display in prominent Thai Buddhist monasteries in Bangkok. King Nangklao of Siam, Rama III, encouraged Sino-Siamese trade that brought Chinese objects and images to nineteenth-century Siam. The ideals of accretion and abundance characteristic of Thai Buddhism and the sinophilia of Rama III facilitated the construction of “Chinese-style” Thai temples. Glass paintings with scenes of the Pearl River Delta, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, auspicious objects, and bird-and-flower compositions were installed in temples and inspired new directions in Thai mural painting.

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-imitation copying method for a Chinese classical mural is described. But the copying method is limited to a single image and cannot be applied to a large number of paintings.
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-imitation copying method for a Chinese classical mural and belongs to the technical field of decoration. The high-imitation copying method comprises the following steps: taking a sandy drawing material, utilizing a digital technology to collect an image digital data of a copied original mural; adding water and gelatin into clam meal, thereby preparing a clam meal base material; uniformly coating or brushing the clam meal base material on the surface of the sandy drawing material, naturally drying, and painting a pattern of the original mural by using a color spraying machine, thereby preparing a base image; repairing; and spraying a natural resin on the surface. A classical mural copied according to the method provided by the invention has the advantages: all details and figure sizes are accurate; the clam meal base material is adopted, so that the copied classical mural has ultrahigh chemical physical stability and is never faded; a traditional mineral pigment has a color developing function, so that the copied classical mural is more bright and colorful; the copied classical mural can be hung on a wall, rolled and stored in a box; the copied classical mural has quality, color, texture and unique frame effect of a sandy picture which are almost as same as those of the original mural; and the service life of the copied classical mural is far more than that of the classical mural.
