TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors proposed an intelligent fresco digital image restoration technique based on machine learning algorithm, and the experimental results show that this method can effectively repair the local fuzzy features of mural digital image.
Abstract: Influenced by the natural environment and preservation conditions, the frescoes in the monastery were damaged to some extent. In order to solve the fresco image restoration conversion and structural decomposition defects, an intelligent fresco digital image restoration technique based on machine learning algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the digital image information of mural is collected by a scanning program, and the data in the database is extracted. The mean filter template is used to restore the color of mural digital image, and the Gaussian template is used to restore the color of image details. The two are superimposed to ensure that the image is not affected by distortion and halo, so as to ensure the clarity of image and boundary. The depth learning model of local fuzzy feature restoration of mural digital image is obtained by using multimodal feature decomposition method, and the intelligent restoration of mural digital image is realized by this model. The experimental results show that this method can effectively repair the local fuzzy features of mural digital image. The repair precision is more than 95.7% and fills in the missing information from the image, and the image quality is good.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that regardless of their democratic potential and potential to act subversively in the public domain, the commemorative murals in the case of Warsaw are predominantly reflecting the official narrations/representations of the past and thus reproducing the state-supported, nation-centered, male-dominated perspective of history.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to closely examine the ways in which the outdoor mural as a form of art. has been used for commemorative purposes in the context of the Polish capital. Drawing on content analysis this paper will argue that regardless of their democratic potential and potential to act subversively in the public domain, the commemorative murals in the case of Warsaw are predominantly reflecting the official narrations/representations of the past and thus reproducing the state-supported, nation-centered, male-dominated perspective of history. Referring to Wulf Kansteiner methodological instructions, the paper introduces the notion of “secondary” memory makers in order to describe the position the mural makers are occupying in the field of Warsaw’s cultural memory. It will also be argued that mural makers, by adapting their works to the demands of the cultural institutions responsible for the memory production and dominant discourses of memory from mainly pragmatic reasons, are forgoing a fair portion of the democratic and subversive potential of the murals. As such, the paintings on the walls are, intentionally or not, further involved in more complex state-sponsored strategies of nationalizing the public space.

TL;DR: The Ixil Maya area is located in Quiche Department of the north-western part of the Guatemalan Highlands and has witnessed a continuous occupation since the 1st millennium BC till today as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The Ixil Maya area is located in Quiche Department of the north-western part of the Guatemalan Highlands. It has witnessed a continuous occupation since the 1st millennium BC till today. This archaeologically interesting region has provided many important discoveries of rare cultural mixture, with distinct features typical for both Maya Highlands and more distant Lowlands. Recently, the scholarly interest has focused on Chajul where a few years ago, in one of the local houses, well preserved wall paintings dated to the Colonial period were exposed by the house owner during the process of its renovation. With this extraordinary finding a question emerged - are we able to confirm the cultural continuity between the pre-Columbian settlers and modem Ixil who claim «to be always here»? This paper presents a brief outline of the history of the Ixil Maya. It also presents results of some recent and preliminary studies conducted by Polish scholars in this region.

TL;DR: The chemical characterization of the remains of mural painting conserved on the palace architecture in the Mayan city of La Blanca (Department of Peten, Guatemala) and the interpretation thereof, in light of current knowledge about the arts of this ancient American culture, constituted one of the lines of research as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The chemical characterization of the remains of mural painting conserved on the palace architecture in the Mayan city of La Blanca (Department of Peten, Guatemala) and the interpretation thereof, in light of current knowledge about the arts of this ancient American culture, constituted one of the lines of research promoted by the La Blanca Project since 2004. The importance of the data obtained during this time has led to the extension of this line of research, over the last year, to other settle- ments in the Mayan lowlands in order to analyse the possible relations between the materials, techniques and painters working at these settlements. This study provides a fairly representative panorama of the materials used in mural painting by this millenary prehispanic civilization and ultimately enables a very precise comparison to be made between these works and those carried out in other cultures of the ancient world.

TL;DR: The recent acquisition by the Museum of Fine Arts at Boston of two mural paintings from the hermitage church of S. Baudelio de Berlanga has again aroused the interest of art historians in this unique series of Romanesque frescoes from Castile.
Abstract: The recent acquisition by the Museum of Fine Arts at Boston of two mural paintings from the hermitage church of S. Baudelio de Berlanga has again aroused the interest of art historians in this unique series of Romanesque frescoes from Castile. For some time the ultimate fate of these important mural paintings was in doubt, but recently the entire series has been brought to the United States. Removed from the walls of the small Spanish chapel, where, through neglect and lack of proper attention, they were gradually disintegrating and falling into a state of ruin, they have now been successfully transferred to canvas. Two large compositions have already found a final resting place in Boston and practically all that was worth saving has been brought to this country, where their true value can be justly appreciated by art critics and scholars.
