TL;DR: The solvation and transport properties of the sulfonate-hydronium ion pair have been studied in hydrated Nafion through molecular dynamics simulation and the association of the hydrated proton with the hydrophobic polymer backbone suggests its amphiphile-like behavior.
Abstract: The solvation and transport properties of the sulfonate−hydronium ion pair have been studied in hydrated Nafion through molecular dynamics simulation. Explicit proton and charge delocalization of the excess proton transport, via the Grotthuss hopping mechanism, were treated using the self-consistent multistate empirical valence bond (SCI-MS-EVB) method. The nature of the sulfonate−hydronium ion pair was characterized through analysis of free-energy profiles. It was found that, in general, the excess proton is solvated between two water molecules of a Zundel moiety while in the contact ion pair position, but then it transitions to an Eigen-like configuration in the solvent-separated pair position. Furthermore, the positive charge associated with the excess proton passes between the contact and solvent-separated ion pair positions through the Grotthuss mechanism rather than simple vehicular diffusion. The total proton diffusion was decomposed into vehicular and Grotthuss components and were found to be of t...

TL;DR: In this article, a low humidity sensing system was set up with a divided flow generator and calibrated by an optical chilled dew-point hygrometer in the measuring range from 8.50 to 15,300ppm v.
Abstract: Composite humidity sensing films were made from carbon nanotube (CNT) and Nafion. The sensing films were prepared using the spin-coating method. Sensing films coated on the electrode of a Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) were used for low humidity measurement. This low humidity system was set up with a divided flow generator and calibrated by an optical chilled dew-point hygrometer in the measuring range from 8.50 to 15,300 ppm v . The detection limit of this sensing system was about 15.76 ppm v . In this low humidity sensing system, the CNT/Nafion sensing material coated on the gold electrode of QCM showed excellent sensitivity, linearity (Rsqr = 0.995), short response and recovery time (less than 5 s, at testing point of 15.76 ppm v ).

TL;DR: In this article, the peroxide radical-initiated attack of the membrane electrode interface is investigated under fuel cell operating conditions, to better determine the fundamental degradation mechanism and find the pathway of membrane degradation as well.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the operational and storage stability of different tyrosinase modified electrodes, i.e., plain bulk modified carbon paste electrodes (CPEs), surface modified by simple adsorption to solid graphite electrodes (SGEs), and surfaces modified by the immobilisation in Eastman AQ, a poly ester-sulphonic acid cation exchanger, and Nafion, a perfluorinated sulphonated ionomer, on the surface of both CP and SGEs.
