TL;DR: In this paper, internal reflection spectroscopy offers a new method of examining and identifying fibers and fabrics directly with little, if any, special treatment, such as mulling and pelletizing in KBr or by casting a film.
Abstract: Synthetic and natural fibers have been analyzed by infrared spectroscopy in the past only after special sample preparation, such as mulling and pelletizing in KBr or by casting a film. Internal reflection spectroscopy offers a new method of examining and identifying fibers and fabrics directly with little, if any, special treatment. Textile fiber and fabric, internal-reflection, sample holders are described, and infrared spectra of a number of representative samples are shown.
